City halts S.E. development that lacks greenway

The city of Portland last week denied a Southeast Portland development proposal by SK Northwest for failing to include a code-required greenway trail.

SK Northwest, a Portland watercraft and all-terrain vehicle dealer, proposed to develop a vacant 1.8-acre riverfront lot with a two-story building, parking and a dock for retail, repair, warehouse and office uses.

The site is in Portland’s River General greenway overlay zone, which makes development subject to greenway review.

A local hearings officer ruled against the proposal Friday.

The property is one of four that marks a drop in connection between the bike-and-walker-attracting Vera Katz Eastbank Esplanade and Springwater Corridor.

SK Northwest may appeal the decision.
