Rain surprises commuters
click to enlargeMany Southern California residents awoke this morning to a rare — at least in this area — summer sight: raindrops.
Monsoonal moisture flowing across the region brought scattered showers and cloudy skies, leaving traces of rain in downtown Los Angeles and other locales that hardly see any moisture in July.
There is a 20% chance of showers and thundershowers across Los Angeles for the remainder of the day, and most places can expect at most a tenth of an inch of precipitation, said weather specialist Stuart Seto of the National Weather Service office in Oxnard.
The clouds should help moderate temperatures, with highs ranging from the mid- to low 80s across coastal areas, upper 80s to mid-90s in the valleys and Inland Empire.
The moist air mass is expected to linger over the area, creating a slight chance of showers and sprinkles Tuesday, the weather service said.
