If you have not seen Part 1 (http://forum.skyscraperpage.com/showthread.php?t=136059) of this “amazing” series, go there first.

Again, ALL IMAGES WERE TAKEN BY ME.

Part 2

Time to leave the depressing perch above the former Towers site and enjoy a good walk. When I’m depressed about Sacramento’s lack of skyscrapers, you know what I do?? That’s right. Head over to West Sacramento…

http://i210.photobucket.com/albums/bb297/snfenoc/1Zig.jpg

In order to do that, I must cross the Sacramento River. I’ll take the Tower Bridge.

http://i210.photobucket.com/albums/bb297/snfenoc/2TwrBrg.jpg

As I get closer, the Tower Bridge looms.

http://i210.photobucket.com/albums/bb297/snfenoc/3TwrBrgLooms.jpg

And it looms some more
http://i210.photobucket.com/albums/bb297/snfenoc/4TwrBrgLoomsMore.jpg

Look! More looming

http://i210.photobucket.com/albums/bb297/snfenoc/5HereitComes.jpg

What the Hell!?

http://i210.photobucket.com/albums/bb297/snfenoc/6OhShit.jpg

I was almost hit. Damn trains. (Did you see that Hippie moron riding beside the train? Idiot.)

Yes, I’m finally about to cross.

http://i210.photobucket.com/albums/bb297/snfenoc/7Brdg.jpg

You might be thinking, “Why so much focus on one structure?”

Well, I like it. That’s why. It just looks cool. Got a problem with that, bucko???

http://i210.photobucket.com/albums/bb297/snfenoc/8Bridge.jpg

It's just a great bridge.

While crossing, I ponder some very heavy thoughts. I mean, I’m 27 (that’s like nearly geriatric) and I am heading west over a river. Wow, the existential angst is flowing through me. Just kidding. No. Actually, I’m pondering the things I’d like to do to the bikini babe floating below me.

Oh look! A close-up of the Ziggurat.

http://i210.photobucket.com/albums/bb297/snfenoc/10ILike.jpg

Well, that was nice. I think I’ll head back to Sacramento now. This time I’ll use the I Street Bridge. But I want to have another look at bridge greatness.

http://i210.photobucket.com/albums/bb297/snfenoc/9BrgTrees.jpg

Awesome!

OK, I could cross the bridge on the lower deck.

http://i210.photobucket.com/albums/bb297/snfenoc/11IStBrg.jpg

However, I see a train on the other side (trust me, it's there), so I’ll take the stairs up to the upper “street” deck.

http://i210.photobucket.com/albums/bb297/snfenoc/12IStBrgStairs.jpg

Yeah, those look inviting.

http://i210.photobucket.com/albums/bb297/snfenoc/13Yummy.jpg

Strike that. They look REALLY inviting.

Now, the I Street Bridge is a little old. Its signs have not been changed in a while.

http://i210.photobucket.com/albums/bb297/snfenoc/14HowOld.jpg

(I see you, Vader)

Plus, it’s really narrow with lots of cars speeding through it, and the wind is 3 times as strong over the river. This should be fun to cross.

http://i210.photobucket.com/albums/bb297/snfenoc/15PaintBridge.jpg

Paint that damn bridge!!

Despite its problems, the I Street Bridge offers some pretty awesome views.

http://i210.photobucket.com/albums/bb297/snfenoc/17IBridgeView.jpg
http://i210.photobucket.com/albums/bb297/snfenoc/18IBridgeView.jpg

Oh look at that (the Sacramento Water Intake Facility).

http://i210.photobucket.com/albums/bb297/snfenoc/21HdngThereNext.jpg

I’ll be heading there next.

The Sacramento Water Intake Facility is on the bike trail, which is not easy access (safely) from the I Street Bridge, so I’ll walk a few extra steps and go through Old Sac.

Ahhhhhhhhh! Another train!!

http://i210.photobucket.com/albums/bb297/snfenoc/20Ahhhh.jpg

Oh, it’s just a picture.

OK, time to walk down the trail

http://i210.photobucket.com/albums/bb297/snfenoc/22IWasJustOnThat.jpg

Whoa!! I was just on that thing.

Damn, what a walk! But I’m almost there.

http://i210.photobucket.com/albums/bb297/snfenoc/24IntakeThruTrees.jpg
http://i210.photobucket.com/albums/bb297/snfenoc/24IntakeWholeView.jpg

Awesome! It’s open.

http://i210.photobucket.com/albums/bb297/snfenoc/25IntakeOpen.jpg

I really enjoy the Intake Facility. It’s a great place to watch boats.

http://i210.photobucket.com/albums/bb297/snfenoc/26WatchTheBoats.jpg

Watch people.

http://i210.photobucket.com/albums/bb297/snfenoc/27WatchThePeople.jpg

Or just relax and stare out into nowhere.

On that note, I will end Part 2 of my tour. Stay tuned for Part 3

I love Sacramento! And I was on that same bridge (with the railroad) taking very similar picturesa while back. I haven't managed to get them up here though. Thanks so much for the photos.

Venturing over to the West side Steve  I like the rusty I Street bridge,
it adds some old charm to the river.

Good stuff... and I look forward to more threads like this with your new camera
