With almost no takeoff roll the Globemaster was in the air....to take the politicians on a short jaunt. The pics aren't the greatest because the military police wouldn't let us near the field.

Yes, but not with this. The C-17 is strategic airlift (i.e. super long range, high capacity) while the Hercules are being replaced by new Hercs (C-130J), which are tactical airlift.

Finally Canada gets some heavy lift capability putting an end to the embarrassing saga of being dependent on other countries.

It's really not that embarrassing. Most countries lease aircraft for strategic airlift. Only 4 countries have the C-17. NATO is getting C-17s that will be shared by European countries.

There should be a giant over sized "Support Our Troops" magnet decal on the tail end of that plane .

Seems only fitting

Sweet bird!

Now all we need are the latest tanks in our inventory, and we're good to go. Either we go with the American M1A2 Abrams or the British Challenger II tanks. That would be a pretty cool thing to see rumbling in the fields now, would it?

...then again, the farmers wouldn't be too happy to see their crops get plowed over. No wonder why we don't have the latest and greatest tanks in the first place.

^Canada's getting Leopard 2A6 tanks to replace the Leopard 1's.

No the old Hercs are not being replaced by the C17's ... the old Herc C-130's are being replaced by the new generation of Hercs C-130's. Both were considered to have tactical airlift capabilities... but the new version have a longer flight range, more lift and shorter takeoff abilities.

The C17's give the military long range transport capabilities. We will be able to move our equipment around the globe without leasing a mega transport plane from the a russian transport company, or bumming a ride from the americans. The C17 is much larger than the Hercs.

I can't wait to see this puppy at the airshows!!! I can't imagine a better recruiting tool.

.... much better than the seaking exhibit .. it goes up.. and than comes down in a ball of flames. "anyone want to sign up??"
