I would focus on filling in the grid completely with buildings, at least then you'll have something complete to look at. Are you suuuure you don't wanna texture this? ;)

Believe me, If I could I would, but this laptop just wouldn't handle it what with all my school work. I can't dedicate the majority of my memory on this computer to anything put school related work.

It would be an ultimate city though, if I did,

TRI is a financial Giant that I have used in all of the Hutchinson's. In this version, TRI has made their home in their 65 floor Regional HQ right next to Hutchinson Central Station. The official name of the Building is of course the "TRI Building".

The building itself was built back in 1964 and was viewed as positive by the city. A big company like TRI moving into the city means more to come, an it did. In years to come, many of TRI competitors moved to Hutchinson, such as: Merrill Lynch, Prudential, Goldman Sachs, and others.

I.D.K. If it's the GE Building but it looks like it. Actually I have model of a building just like the GE but my version is I.D.K. some 1550 FEET TALL!!! But I won't add it to my city because I don't want to have the Empire State, Chrysler, and GE. Just two.

No, it's actually suppose to be a J.W. Marriot Hotel, built to draw customers from the Rosenthol Convention Center and Hutchinson Central Station.

(If I had textures, it would be a modern glass covered building).

Well, currently I'm working on the 4 lane "truss style bridge" that will connects St. Marks Island to the Penninsula (which is made up of Hutchinson and Shoreside Vale). By tonight I will post updates showing you every area of the city that is currently made.

By tomorrow I'll have the bridge done and will begin work on St. Marks Island, (including the Stadium, Stadium City, roads, and tenaments).

You'll probably see Stadium City done by the end of next week.

One was built in 1930, and the other was just completed in the Spring of
2007. Both the Bank of Hutchinson Tower and The Alliance Building may have a huge age difference, but the both harbor the same looks and make a huge statement in the Downtown Skyline.

The Bank of Hutchinson Building......

In 1930, Hutchinson was begining to serve as a major business and financial city. The City knowing that, went ahead and created a bank entitled the Bank of Hutchinson. All income would go to the city of Hutchinson. The city wanted to make a statement with the new bank and draw attention to potential customers, so they went ahead an built an 87 floor highrise. Their intention was for the building to be the cities tallest (there was no spire in the original plan). But money shortage stopped the erection of a spire to make it the cities tallest. Until 2007, the Imperial Tower across Ocean Expressway, out did BofH in height. In Feburary of 2007, BofH built a spire ontop of the building, officially completing the projects and making it the second tallest building, ahead of the Imperial.

But all that quickly ended. In April of '07, the 90 floor Alliance tower was completed and was made to look like it was built in the early 20th century. The building hold offices, high end apartments, and a Mandarin Oriental Hotel. The Allinace Tower is considered one of the most luxurious buildings in the city. The building's trademark is the dome ontop of the building with the spire jutting out, making it the cities second tallest.

Here is a pic of the Alliance Tower (right) and the Bank of Hutchinson Building (left), with the Imperial Tower (in the center). :

Urban decay, crime, drugs, and poverty are all attributes of Shoreside Vale. The Vale is considered one of the toughest areas of the country. It would seem surprising considering all the revitalizations the city made under mayor Rosenthol, but this is one area that even the most fearless poloticians won't touch.

Shoreside Vale started back in the 1850's as farm land. As immigration struck the nation, by 1900 brick tenemants were being constructed to occupy immigrants. As time went on especially in the 60's, immigrants moved more into the city center of Hutchinson as well as Albom in search of a better life. No one wanted to buy the old tenemants, so by the 70's the some abandoned buildings were taken over by thugs, crooks, drug dealers, and gangs. By 1975, the Vale had a 80% African American Population and a 20% Hispanic Population.

The Vale is divided up into two areas: East and West Vales. The African American population took the East, and the Hispanics the West. The division line is a concrete trench that was built buy the city for water containment back in 1950. It was put out of service in 1976 and has since then housed garbage, old cars, shopping carts, and homeless.

During the 60's and 70's the Government approved the construction of project housing to try to revitalize the area, but resident gangs and junkies used violence to prevent the moving in of middle income famalies.

Today low income residents, gangs, junkies, drug dealers, thugs, criminals, homeless, abandoned buildings, project housing, old tenemants, and strict poverty is all what Shoreside Vale is made of. There have been no efforts to clean the area up in fear of riots and violence, so in 1995, Rosenthol built a concrete wall on the East side of the Vale beneath Ocean Expressway to isolate the Vale from the rest of the city.

HAA!! Silly little gangsters they have no power over The Wall!!!
Wait. How are the good samaritans that live in Shoreside Vale going to get to the other side?

There are streets that connect to the rest of the city. The wall was put in place to keep gangs away from the corporate populated area as well as the convention center less than 10 blocks away. The only 2 ways out of the area are always gaurded by the Hutchinson Police Department who do a brief inspection before people leave. There are schools, grocery stores, and other shotty stores to the point where there is no need for anyone to leave except to go to work (which very people do) or to travel (which almost noone does). It's pretty much a self governed communtiy, but is still under the Hutchinson ownership.

Consider Shoreside Vale what Harlem and the Bronx were 20 to 30 years ago only a little more worse.

Man sounds like a concentration camp without the torture, disease, and starvation. Still it's good that all the violent people are in a separated area. The Hutchinson Government should make affordable housing near downtown for the good people who always get robbed or threatened by gangs.

Dac150
Aug 26, 2007, 1:59 AM
The St. Marks Bridge was built back in 1940 to eliminate the need for the ferry to make an extra trip. The bridge is a steel cantilever which holds 4 lanes.

The problem is the bridge is getting old and was not built for the amount of people it carry's everyday (especially people going to see the Hornet's game). Since the completion of the bridge, St. Marks Island has dramatically changed. During the 90's Stadium City was created which is made up of retail, restaurants, high end and middle income residential highrises and tenaments, hotels, the marina, the Hornets Stadium, and office buildings.

With the increasing traffic population the city is looking at options to replace the bridge with a possible 8 lane truss bridge or even a cable-stayed bridge. Since no boats are allowed in the St. Marks Channel (due to security) their is no height limit for the bridge to be above water.

I yet to build a lot of them, but Albom is full of affordable housing and their is a lot (yet to be built by myself) in the city.

I did show you guys Sunset Heights, which is a whole neighborhood dedicated to affordable housing (tons of Government hosuing projects).

Shoreside Vale is all Projects that were consumed by the scum of the city. Shoreside Vale is the "ghetto" of Hutchinson. A 80% African American population, and a 20% Hispanic population.

I had virtually no time today to work on Hutchinson let alone make an update, and will most likely not be able to tomorrow as well. Here is another sneak peak of St. Marks Island. The work I did was done last night. I will probably be able to give a complete update of St. Marks on Tuesday, but don't count on it. School starts up again on Tuesday.

Anyway here is that preview pic: (This is looking at Shoreside Vale from St. Marks Island).

The city has grown so much since I last saw it. The suburbs are incredible!

I say build the cable stayed bridge, but preserve the old steel one as well, so just built the new one nearbye.

Keep it up!

Are you gonna show Stadium City shots soon?

Over the week I am going to show all areas of St. Marks in sections rather than whole. Even thought the island is small, there is still alot to see. Expect an update later tonight.

Peter- Well the city council has yet to decide which road they'll choose to go down regarding the new bridge. I am going to keep the original bridge. Possibly make it into a pedestrian and biking crossing with a grass divider in the middle.

Sorry I wasn't able to post updates the last couple of days, but now that school officially started, those 7 pic updates a night like I've shown during the summer will be rare. I'm trying to shoot for an update every other day, but will see.

It can be hard working on stadiums!! I started my stadiums but they take too long to make. Not only are you making stadiums but new buildings in the island..
Oh and I don't have much time lately to update my city and all because of school!! I have to get everything ready!!

As I said, I will be posting updates of St. Marks Island one area at a time. Tonight I will start you off with the Hutchinson Yacht Club.

The Hutchinson Yacht Club was formed back in 1890 for the rich and elite of the Hutchinson to dock their yachts. The original location of the club was where the Hutchinson Ferry Terminal stands today. In 1963, the club moved over to a parcel of land located on St. Marks Island. At the time St. Marks was really nothing but old docks and 19th century buildings. It was a wonder to the public why they made their move there. In time to come, St. Marks Island became more of a wealthy hotspt in the city. With the development of high-end shops, restaurants, residential buildings, office buildings, and hotels, the Hutchinson Yacht Club began to fit right in with the area.

Today St. Marks Island is considered one of Hutchinson's playgrounds for the wealthy, and the Hutchinson Yacht Club is one of the hottest swings on the set. There is room for 6 large yachts with docks lined in stone. There is also a private five star restaurant for members and a pool club.

Yeah I would like to see more, way more details. The building shapes are nice but textures or floor-by-floor would be cool.

That's what happens when college starts up again and your paying 40,000 + a year for it. It will tend to effect the amount of time you spend in sketchup.;)
