Here is Gensler's first rendering for the 30 story office tower to be built across from the new Discovery Green Park on the eastside of downtown Houston.

The office tower will have ground floor retail and 871,000 square feet of retail. Ground breaking is set for January 2008 with an opening set for 2010. Trammell Crow is developing the tower and the garage which will be located one block to the North of the tower which will sit at LaBranch @ McKinney. Hopefully, the crown will put this tower in the 500 foot range although I suspect it will come in around 460 feet tall.

Not bad. I had thought this tower would be taller, though. ? Looks to be around 350 feet.

Wow, this will be perfect. The Park Tower should have the same effect on the eastside skyline that the Texaco Heritage plaza has on the westside skyline. Then, the right-hand side of the Park Tower will be accentuated by the Discovery Tower flanking it's right when viewing downtown from the east.

350 feet would be way too short considering they changed the original plans (a 31 story tower with 24 floors of office space above 7 floors of garage space) into a 30 story all office tower with a garage on an adjacent lot.

With ground floor retail/lobby space and 29 additional floors of office space, this building would fall between 420 and 460 feet considering normal building figures. The crown on the top is the mystery. Will it add enough to reach the 500 foot mark?

With One Park Place (501 feet, 37 floors) being built on block to the southwest, another 450-500 footer would be quite nice.

Also, rumors are starting to come out about the city/county wanting to help build another convention hotel on the north side of the park with around 1,200 rooms. This hotel would sit across the Discovery Green from the Hilton Americas (324 feet tall?) and would all but completely surround the new park with towers. NICE.

This park is really adding something good to that side of Downtown. It isn't too far from the Southeast Line (soon to get underway), either. I would have rather them build the building on top of the parking garage, so the over height could be taller, but at least two surface lots are being taken up.

I like the sound of the hotel. Hopefully a W Hotel, or maybe Ritz Carlton come in.

That's surprising. It doesn't look that tall from the rendering, but I guess it's not impossible.

Doesn't hold a candle to Main Place, IMO, but it fits well with the immediate area.
