In Early August, right before the hazy, crazy, heatwave, my boyfriend and I decided to walk around Downtown Charlotte and take some pictures. I've lived hear for over a year, and the downtown area is exploding right now with new scrapers. I know the representation of Charlotte has gone down hill on this forum, but I really wanted to show some good pics..

-Pics of new condos
-pics of parks, and very walkable areas.
-pics of density.

I hope you enjoy a the pictures of a city, that is definetly one of the up and comers in the south.

Enjoy...

Great pics... Charlotte is coming along very well. I have relatives in Concord, a suburb of Charlotte, and every time I come through uptown I am impressed by the growing skyline.

Great pictures of Charlotte! mo1217, I used to live in Concord. The skyline when you drive down I-85 towards South Carolina is so pretty in all of the trees.

Agreed, Charlotte is a great place. For now, the Westin all too often gets left out of DT photos because it's separated from the core by several blocks. Eventually, that void will be filled with additional towers, and the Westin will be part of a more cohesive skyline. Good thing, too, b/c it's an exceptional piece of architecture.

I also meant to add that Charlotte is going to have quite a few cranes pretty soon. Trademark and Avenue (shown) are wrapping up construction, as is the Park (see below) just as the Twelve project, Wachovia projects, Bank of America and its Ritz Carlton, 210 Trade, 300 South Tryon, and Vue will be going vertical...

Pardon the rendering. It's straight from the website.

Also on the horizon are Portman's tower...

and recently announced is this lowrise, a renovation of the old Carolina Theater...

And let's not forget all the non-tower projects, like the NC Music Factory, NASCAR Hall of Fame, Third Ward Warehouse District, baseball stadium, and so on. Yeah, Charlotte is doing pretty well right now.

My favorite thing about downtown Charlotte is that amazing tree-cover. It gives it such a cozy, comfortable vibe. Every city should follow suit!

This is getting ridiculous - every time I check up on what is going on in Charlotte it is something completely different on a totally different level. Downtown looks great - & the Hearst Tower (I think that is the name) is still my very favorite modern skyscraper.

I absolutely love the carolina theatre condo tower. Very cosmopolitian. We have a couple of similar style buildings going up in Philly and NYC. Love it.

Charlotte development always brings a smile to my face.

3 corrections.
Carolina Theatre is 20+ stories, and therefor not a lowrise, nor a midrise, it is a highrise.
the Third ward Project is Catalyst Condo Tower, Twelve Hotel/Condo Tower, and Office Tower.
Also the Nascar Hall of Fame has a Office Tower that is pretty large, It will be leed and pretty tall.

Yes it had damage and no it did not cave in.

Church Street in front of Duke & Wachovia construction site had some rock to shift and cause cracks in the road. The damage from the rock taken from the Wachovia construction site.

It has been closed for repaired and should be open soon.

Skyline from South End:

The base of Wachovia's office tower (three total yellow cranes). Also notice the blue crane in the back left. That's working on the Catalyst project:

Nice photos. I hope we can stop with the "blue glass" craze now. Maybe it was on sale at Lowes. I do like Avenue and Trademark, but I hope 210 Trade, the Vue, and the NASCAR tower do something different. At least the new Wachovia building looks impressive. I hope the skin ends up looking like that of 1180 Peachtree in Atlanta, or it ends up looking like a shorter version of the Shanghai World Financial Center.
