I am interested in attending a college in the Chattanooga area. I've been there once and i really liked it, but I'd like to hear from someone that has more experiance there than me. So I would appreciate any comments on what the area (Lookout Mountain in particular) is like.

Thanks! :D

I don't live there but I've visited many times. I don't know much about the night life for Chattanooga as I've never been that kind of person. But there is a lot to do especially outdoors...whether it's spending days hiking the Chattanooga & Chickamauga battlefield or a day on the Tennessee River and out on Nickajack Lake. Downtown has the Tennessee Aquarium and Chattanooga Choo-Choo. The nicest thing about Chattanooga is it's between Atlanta or Nashville and only a few hours from the Smokies. Of course it has all the shopping and restaurants you'd expect of a city close to 200k. You can probably find a lot more online though, try google. :)

If you're used to a city like NYC you might get bored, but personally I like it there. The Aquarium area is nice, with a lot of restaurants and bars, varied attractions, and the water area along the riverfront. There's a small arts district a couple of blocks from there, and a free electric shuttle bus that goes from that area to the main downtown area back and forth all day.

As someone else said (skywalker), the location gives it an advantage over other cities that size, too. If you want a more "big city" weekend, it's only a couple of hours to Atlanta or Nashville, so you can get the stuff from those cities without having to deal with the junk of living in them full time (traffic, etc).

It is a small Southern city, but it has a cool downtown. The nightlife is what you would expect for a small city, but it is decent. The setting on the Tennessee River is beautiful, and there are tons of recreational opportunities around. There's a great trail to jog/bike on that runs for several miles along the river. The downtown feels clean and very safe. UT-Chattanooga has a decent campus (nothing particularly unique, but not unattractive). It's location near the river and downtown is a pretty cool setting to live in. You get some of the college town feel while still living in a pretty good sized city.

Same here. Chattanooga is one of my favorite cities anywhere. The cost of living is very affordable. The riverwalk is one of the best in the southeast.

In addition to being close to Nashville and Atlanta, you're also close to the Great Smoky Mountains, Asheville, Birmingham, Huntsville, and many other places that rank among my favorites in the region. I know people don't generally think of Birmingham as a place to visit, but it makes a really good day trip - tons of restaurants.
