Cool pics... it is crazy that a forest used to be in that barren part of Arizona.

Awesome. My dad used to work at a rock shop out in the Hill Country. The place was at his friend's ranch. Out on the property you could find that stuff lying all over the place. They'd go out and collect it and sell it in the shop. They also had certain kinds of gems.

Great pictures agin. It's strange to see the petrified logs look like they were cut up. Do you happen to know why this is?

Nah. My guess is that they just fell apart after so many millions of years.

Although they look like clean cuts, they aren't. They are crude.

And yeah, it's turning into quartz and other crystals, hence all the colors.

One of the petrified forests is named the Crystal Forest b/c of all the crystals that the petrified logs are turning into.

you got some pretty cool shots there. i love the stark desert landscape, and even better when i storm rolls through as it seemed to have done in your pics :tup:

Sweet pictures! I went here a few weeks after you did actually, on a road trip from San Diego to Denver, then back down through New Mexico and Arizona. It is a very nice drive!
