I recently caught an episode of one of my favorite shows "Anthony Bourdain's No Reservations" on the Travel Channel. It featured the city of Cleveland.
Just wondering how you all feel about how the city was portrayed on the show. I feel that Cleveland was portrayed as a decaying former industrial boomtown. Being from St. Louis, we deal with that false perception all the time. Has anyone in the local media commented on the show or how the city was portrayed. Any thoughts from you Clevelandites out there?? :koko:

*Ahem* - Clevelanders, not Clevelandites :)
I haven't seen the show but a lot of people either liked the quirky angle, or they didn't like the lingering around abandoned factories. I'd say most of the people who liked the quirky/grit focus aren't natives, and those who didn't are life-long residents. I guess the latter has heard/seen enough of the "less than flattering" perception.
I did hear they had Skyline Chili on the show - that's a Cincinnati thing, NOT a Cleveland thing.

Sorry, just guessed on the "Clevelandites" term. I'll remember Clevelanders.:)
I do think that they lingered way to much around the less desirable areas of your city and created the perception of an old industrial city, down on it's luck. As you know, all cities have new/restored areas and old run down areas. Guess they were going for that quirky angle, like you mentioned.
I wouldn't be as upset about that. I would be more upset about the multiple references to the fact that raw sewage goes into Lake Erie. They zoomed in on the warning sign several times, as winter surfers rode waves. I personally like the city and think it is better than portrayed, just my opinion.
PS_ I still love the show "No Reservations"

Must have strangely confused "Skyline" (Cincinnati) with "Slyman's" (Cleveland), though you have to be an idiot to do so since one serves something masquerading as chili and the other serves the best damn "samiches" in Ohio.

They don't have sandwiches or "samiches" (as the Michigan crowd says) north of Polaris Mall.
