Why? Are they finally building that 14/Lawerence tower or the Teatro tower?

...formerly called the Teatro Tower should be breaking ground hopefully in the next month or two according to all reports. The sales center has been open for awhile now and they have had numerous full page adds and articles lately. Someone just plunked down for one of the 8 million dollar penthouses.

The Spire has broken ground and already has 4 levels to it, the Four Seasons (Teatro) should break ground within weeks as the penthouse just sold for 10 million and I believe they are over 50 % sold with their condos, and the sales offices are up and space cleared for 1401 Lawrence. All are along 14th Street and in the 40 - 50 floor range. The first photo has a blue crane in LODO, the second photo below is the new building going up on Lincoln and in the eighth picture from the top of this thread you can see the blue crane for the Spire across from the Convention Center. Exciting construction development happening as there is talk of other building like the Tabor 2, but I only get inspired when I see a sales office or a large crane! Not sure if any will be completed entirely for the Democratic National Convention but it will be evident of our growth in the media coverage next summer.

That is cool you guys are building those. I remember reading about them and thought it was going to not happen. That will change downtown for sure. I want to go back in two years and see the changes.

Not being familiar with Denver at all...is this are part of the city of Denver or is it another city that's blended into Denver?

....usually lomped into being called The Denver Tech Center...its the south I-25 corridor made up of Greenwood Village, Inverness and Denver Tech. There is a 2 million sq ft Shopping Area called Park Meadows as well as a 18,000 person ampitheatre called Coors Ampitheatre (formerly Fiddlers Green).

The square footage of office space actually exceeds downtown Denver by a little bit. The area is approximately 12 to 15 miles south of downtown.

The tech center is actually half inside the city & county of denver, half outside. it's definitely a major force in the region, as has been mentioned; it's a classic edge city. the recently finished southeast LRT line connects it to downtown, as does the valley highway (I-25). Most of the suburban photos KC has posted are of the I-25 corridor between downtown and the tech center.

Gridlock, as always, your "above" threads are as interesting as hell to look at. can't wait to see the central platte valley around union station built out.

...but I dislike vague criticism as a "concept". For instance: I like the highway system and transportation in Atlanta. The tall buildings are very interesting with many spires and interesting architecture. I dislike the far reaching sprawl. See..it isn't that difficult.

I can see how some might find Denver too sterile... too shiny and new. It's a young city. It should be more to your liking in a century or two. :haha:

From what I've read, Atlanta isn't any better... but I've never been myself, so I can't really offer an opinion.

Well the boxy "80's" skyline isn't very appealing and doesn't do its surroundings justice but the neighborhoods surrounding Downtown Denver like Capital Hill and Highland are very appealing. Downtown Denver seems to be livelier than Atlanta IMO and the buildings in downtown Denver seem more connected to the street and their surroundings than in Atlanta, especially around Piedmont Park. Of course this is just my observation. Lastly, as mentioned in another post, Denver isn't a young city unless you're comparing it to east coast or European cities but it had a well established core in the late 1800's.

Top Of The Park
Sep 20, 2007, 2:14 AM
...I watched it grow 10x from its 250,000 in the 50's. I would certainly agree that there are too many flat roofed buildings there, which the notable exception of "cashie". Denver is lucky to have all the surrounding neighborhoods and although they don't count in downtowns population, they connect in so many ways. The good thing going on there is its very clean, they are cleaning up a re-occurance of gang problems, the city is pro-actively trying to do better on every front i. e. transportation.....and finally, there are almost no slums. I don't think many cities can say that.

Being a Denver native, you have all of this correct! I am building some historic Denver threads of the schools, churches and various buildings built here in the late 1800s and early 1900s. Denver had the most millionaires per square mile in the early 1900s, the "Unsinkable" Molly Brown types. Her house will be in an upcoming thread of mine. We are not new but we grow slowly and carefully. The larger buildings downtown are from the 80s but wait two years as three are basically under construction now that will have modern character and one even is pointy, finally!

Thanks again everybody.

But I must ask.

Why does everybody make such a big deal out of denver's "boxy" buildings?

Why would you want denver to look just like Atlanta or Philly.

Denver has a great skyline IMO.

Don't be so touchy. I'm really ok with you not being completely in love with Atlanta. And I'm even ok with you feeling that you have to bring it up as a defense in a thread about another city all together just because I, who made a comment about Denver that wasn't "I love this city and everything about it soooo much," am from Atlanta.

Fantastic photos as always, and lots of great subjects as well!

However (and I would say this about any comparable area in ANY city) - this area in this photo probably offers tons of jobs; but it also looks like the perfect place if you enjoy having your soul bled from you 40+ hours a week (a la "Office Space"):

Speaking of Office Space, my cubicle (and future office with just a door and no window! :)) are located on the 5th floor of the 6 floor beige/tan building located 2nd from the bottom left in that photo! :)

My cubicle is currently decked out with an Initech coffee mug, a red Swingline stapler, and a TPS report cover sheet pinned to it! :haha:
