I wish I could be back in Vancouver for the month of October. What a line up! I hope Shanghai will start to get more acts out of France and Germany. Unfortunately, this style of electro music, while popular here, still hasn't transcended to the big clubs. Oh well, Talib Kweli is playing a few blocks away from my apartment on Oct. 5, so it's not all doom and gloom.

cool. yeah this fall is pretty jam packed with shows worth going to. especially loving music coming out of france and germany right now too. BOYS NOIZE played at the plaza last week and it was mental.
note that this is the second time Justice has been here in the past 6 months, same goes for The Klaxons. Nice to see that Vancouver is seeing bands and djs coming more frequently (such as in cities like london...where a band or dj is constantly playing shows), instead of just the typical 1 time, or once a year visit.

Led Zeppelin reunion: Jimmy Page hints at more shows
Guitarist says there might be a full-blown tour
14.Nov.07 1:53pm
Led Zeppelin (http://www.nme.com/artists/led-zeppelin) guitarist Jimmy Page has hinted that there may be a full-scale reunion tour.
The band are set to play a one-off reunion show on December 10 (http://%20http//www.nme.com/news/led-zeppelin/31079) at The O2 in London.
And the unprecedented demand has got Page thinking that more shows might be a good idea.
Page told Blabbermouth: "It's a bit silly not to because there is such massive demand...It's a bit selfish to do just one show. If that's it, we probably shouldn't have taken the genie out of the bottle."
The December 10 show is being held to raise money for the Ahmet Ertegun Education Fund, which pays for university scholarships in the UK, US and Turkey.
Meanwhile the band made their back catalgue available digitally for the first time yesterday (November 12), and as a result their classic track 'Stairway To Heaven' is likely to enter the UK Top 40 for the first time ever next week (November 18).

Astbury says Cult to open on Zep tour
By JOHN KRYK, SUN MEDIA
Is Led Zeppelin going to tour in 2008? Not only does Cult frontman Ian Astbury think so, he told a Cincinnati club crowd last Saturday that his band is the opening act.
According to several Internet music-news sites, including Rolling Stone magazine's website (rollingstone.com), at a small club gig in the Ohio city on the weekend, Astbury bragged that, "We'll be back next year. Because we're opening for a band you may have heard of ... the name starts with an 'L' and has a 'Z' in it."
When fans shouted out, "Led Zeppelin?" Astbury nodded in affirmation.
Subsequently, Zeppelin has neither confirmed nor denied a tour is in the works.
Jimmy Page, Robert Plant, John Paul Jones and Jason Bonham (son of the late Zep drummer John Bonham) are playing a one-off show as Led Zeppelin on Dec. 10 at the 02 Arena in London, England, as part of a tribute to the late Atlantic Records exec Ahmet Ertegun.
In interviews with Sun Media last month, both Jones and Page were coy about plans beyond the London show, but Page since has indicated he'd be all for a tour. "It's a bit silly not to because there is such massive demand," Page told Guitar World magazine. "It's a bit selfish to do just one show. If that's it, we probably shouldn't have taken the genie out of the bottle."
Plant, however, dismissed the idea in an interview with Uncut magazine: "There'll be one show and that'll be it. We need one last great show because we've done some (reunion) shows and they've been crap."
Rolling Stone speculates that The Cult were probably told by Zep reps that if there is a tour, they'd be offered an opening-act slot.

Anne Murray's last tour to hit Vancouver in May
Amy O'Brian, Vancouver Sun
Published: Wednesday, December 05, 2007
What does a songbird do when she retires? Apparently, she keeps singing - but on her own terms.
And she spends so much time on the golf course she becomes the world's best female celebrity golfer.
That's Anne Murray's version of retirement, at least.
The 62-year-old announced this week that she is heading out in the spring for her last coast-to-coast tour to promote what might - or might not - be her last album.
The tour hits Vancouver's Queen Elizabeth Theatre on May 5 and tickets go on sale Friday.
Her most recent album is a collection of duets with an impressive range of female singers - a testament to Murray's reputation as a musical legend.
To convince superstars such as Emmylou Harris, Nelly Furtado, Olivia Newton-John, k.d. lang, Celine Dion and Shania Twain to join her on the album, all she had to do was ask.
"It was so much fun to do," Murray said earlier this fall over the phone from her home north of Toronto.
"I was able to do it live - singing across from somebody. We recorded it in four cities. We did it in L.A., New York, Nashville and Toronto. There was lots of travel involved. It's taken me the whole year."
Until Murray's label approached her with the idea of a duets album, the singer was thinking she'd put her recording days behind her.
"I thought I had done my last album," she said.
That's why she called her 2004 recording, I'll Be Seeing You.
But when she started thinking about the possibility of working with a great producer on an album of duets with great female singers, she started to get excited about it.
"They wanted a high-profile producer. They wanted to make some noise with it."
And they did.
The album debuted at #4 on Canada's Top-200 Soundscan Chart, making it her highest debut in more than 20 years.
The album's producer, Phil Ramone, had worked on some seriously successful projects, giving Murray confidence he would guide her in the right direction.
"I knew he'd done the Sinatra duets project. I knew he was well versed in duets, and that's what I needed."
At their first meeting, Murray suggested the duets all be with women.
Her management team initially said 'No,' but had a change of heart soon after.
All the songs on the album are hers, but figuring out who was going to join her on which song was a bit of a puzzle.
"That was the trick - was to try to match the song with the right person," she said. "Jann Arden loves those tear-jerkers. There's nobody who loves a sad song more than Jann."
So Murray chose Somebody's Always Saying Goodbye for her.
Nelly Furtado joins her for the always-bubbly Daydream Believer, and she manages a posthumous duet with Dusty Springfield on I Just Fall in Love Again.
The spring tour will include songs from the Duets album, but obviously not the women with whom she recorded the songs.
"Debbie, my backing singer, is perfectly capable of doing duets," she said matter-of-factly. "And in some places we may be able to get people to come on as guests."
As for what the legendary songbird - and former gym teacher - will do after the tour, she's not quite sure.
"Next year is my 40th year. It makes sense to tie that 40th year in with perhaps a final album, a final Canadian tour. It's just all kind of falling into place," she said.
"I don't know what will happen after that. That's pretty much how I'm doing my career these day. A year in advance, maybe."
There will undoubtedly be plenty of golf.
She would like to keep her title of Golf for Women magazine's top female celebrity player, after all.
She will continue to spend time with her two adult children and is considering writing an autobiography. But as for whether she will retire in the traditional sense, she's not so sure.
"I've been busy for so long, I don't know whether I could. I might go a bit wingy."
Whatever happens though, she's not fretting about it. She's confident opportunities will present themselves at the right time.
"When I can't sing to my satisfaction any more, I will no longer do it. And I'll know when that time comes because I'm such a perfectionist. It's hard to settle for less. So we'll see. We'll see."

One of the reasons many American bands apparently don't like coming here is because U.S. based artists have to pay extra taxes to perform in Canada. I heard someone say promoters have to pay thousands extra in taxes. For a major concert where they can sell out the GM place this may not be an issue, but it is for garage bands. Any more info on this?

With regards to the Pemberton Festival, perhaps it's time this part of the province get an outdoor music venue on the same scale as the Gorge in Washington State. (which hosts the Sasquatch Festival).

Besides, 200 million albums sold, many many many music awards including numerous Grammy's and Junos....that has got to say something. Not to mention that she is actually one of the very few today that can actually *sing*!
Led Zeppelin: 300 million
The Beatles: 1 billion +
Pink Floyd: 250 million
Queen: 300 million
The listeners have spoken.

He should be.
The fans should greet him at the airport waving their arms as the plane descends onto the landing strip.

I got one of the last floor tix for Iron Maiden. Unfortunately, I was supposed to pick up 4, but was only able to get 1, so I will be on the floor while all my friends are in seats. :haha:
In other news, Judas Priest are playing GM Place in July.

Not into the concert scene but I came across this and thought it might be of interest to others. It's called Desifest and it's on Water St this weekend, I've never heard of it before, but sounds like a large event.

I thought Pavco said that a retractable roof could be built with the stadium inflatable roof intact, with stadium operations functioning normally - with events going on inside, even football games.

That's a bad thing. But it's Madonna, so I don't really care.
If by some miracle Led Zeppelin were to play here on a tour, it would be a shame if they played BC Place. I saw the Rolling Stones when they came here and the acoustics were total shit. I'd rather be high in the balcony at GM Place or the Pacific Coliseum than on the floor at BC Place.

Madonna + BC Place echo = disaster:(
I'd personally rather have two concerts at GM Place, just like U2 a few years ago, rather than one big one at the dome.

as the biggest madonna fan on this forum i was beside myself to learn that she is playing Vancouver for the first time after 25 years and 7 tours. As for BC Place, she is playing a lot of stadiums this time around, which she hasn't done since 1993. I've noticed that most of the stadium shows are in "smaller" markets like Vancouver and San Diego, while big markets like Toronto and New York are in arenas (surely to have more dates added when the single date announced now sells out).
SpongeG
May 9, 2008, 4:44 AM
yeah she does that with each last tour - announces one or two dates than keeps adding - if you look at the schedule there are usually a number of days between cities
side note: i go to three madonna forums and they are all having orgasms - a lot of them go to every freaking show and save up for years to do so - they spend $1000's following her around
nuts
i saw her in toronto years ago - it was a pretty good show
