You can just imagine a T-rex trampling over the Aquarium's fence, then dipping her head into the pools and feeding on the seals, belugas, and dolphins......and she drinks from the pool.

She ate a dog too if I remember.
We can style the whole thing "Jurrasic Park 4"
Vancouver needs some publicity. :P

^ lol, there actually will be a Jurassic Park 4 movie....the finale of the series, based on how the animals are reaching the mainland of North America and multiplying.
Anyhow...

Imagine that happening to you while you're doing your thing in a Stanley Park restroom. (or when two guys are having sex in Stanley Park, which i unfortunately ran into)

Dinosaurs may roam Vancouver's Stanley Park
Documents reveal park board plans to install gigantic animatronic attractions

Vancouver Parks Commissioner Spencer Herbert says there has not been enough public consultation on plans to put up to 30 animatronic dinosaurs in Stanley Park.

One of Canada's most iconic parks could soon be home to more than trees, tourists and spectacular views. The Vancouver Park Board wants to add another attraction: giant robotic dinosaurs.
Documents obtained by the CBC reveal the board has put out a request for proposals for 25 to 30 life-size animatronic dinosaurs to be installed in Stanley Park near a miniature railroad right next to the petting zoo.
The board hopes the attraction, if it goes ahead, would generate revenue by drawing 400,000 more fee-paying visitors into the park each year. Fees for the exhibit are not yet known.
Even though a request for potential robotic dinosaur suppliers was recently posted on the web, the proposal has so far remained a secret even from some Park Board commissioners.
Park Commissioner Spencer Herbert only learned about the plan Wednesday when the CBC contacted him with the details. He said the plan has never been tabled at a Park Board meeting or made public at any time.
"It boggles my mind," said Herbert. "I took a look at the website and I said, 'What!' I've never been consulted, I've never heard about this before."

Herbert is a member of the COPE civic party, which holds a minority of two seats on the board. He feels politics may have been the reason for the secrecy surrounding the plan.
The chair of the board, Ian Robertson, was away from Vancouver and unavailable for comment Wednesday. Robertson is a member of the NPA civic party, which holds a majority of four seats on the board.
Herbert said he is not prejudging the proposal, but he's concerned that if the board is planning to install 30 giant growling reptiles in the city's most precious green space, the public might like to know about it.
Patricia Thomson, the director of the Stanley Park Ecology Society, which promotes the park's natural attractions, was also concerned about the proposal.
"I would hate to see it turn into a theme park in Stanley Park," said Thomson.
While dinosaurs may pack in the tourists, the prehistoric beasts aren't a part of the park's history, she said.
"I would prefer that we would get a similar draw from educational components that included our own local and current amphibians and raccoons and such," said Thomson.
i'm actually looking forward to this, it would be a great addition to the park.

*falls off chair laughing*
I can just see it......"and last but not least, we have the skunk. please hold your breath as we spray you with skunk spray. thank you for having your educational experience with us."
or maybe they could have a giant raccoon, 100x its actual size.
I can't see the Parks Board approving this. Stanley Park doesn't need gimmicky crap like this.

there is a park in atlanta that has gigantic bugs
there really isn't much to attract people to the park that creates revenue for the park - the seawall is free and the water park
most people don't even know there is a train and petting zoo
am i the only old one who can remember the zoo at the park?
they had monkeys, polar bears, otters, penquins, snakes, lizards, birds etc.
kinda weird to walk around the areas where it used to be

^^ i dont remember the zoo ever, although i only moved here a few years ago. but i walked by where it used to be one day and it was like something from a horror movie, kinda cool actually.
does the park board plan on keeping it there or eventually tearing it down?

isn't it around the aquarium? I was like four or five when the zoo closed so I don't remember anything...
Wasn't there plans for the aquarium to expand, taking over what used to be the zoo?

the old polar bear thing is near the aquarium - you can still see signs that say DO NOT FEED THE BEARS
its kinda weird - its pretty much all there - it is kind of easy to miss its getting overgrown now and not on the main path
the rest was spread out in the same area - towards the aquarium and towards where the painters set up
there used to be a concession along that one main path and next to it were where the seals or something were
and where there is a concession now down near the aquarium used to be little buildings where the monkeys, snakes and birds were
and what is now lawn an gardens is where the penquins and otters used to be - you could watch them on this big slide thing
found some pics on google
the polar bear area that is still there...

I miss the zoo as well. Although I remember the polar bears den. It was really antiquated and the polar bears didn't do much. Loaf mostly.
And their fur was yellow. It's like they'd been smoking all of their lives.

yeah they looked sad - all they did was walk back and forth most of the time
did they go to aldergrove? i think most of the animals that didn't go to the aquarium went to the zoo in aldergrove?

i say bring back the zoo.
A little too small and inhumane a space for them, don't you think?
As for the dinosaur train, they should just make it an annual two-week thing. And then they should put them away and return it back to nature or open it up to other themes.
BTW, don't you think this thread be better moved to another forum, where it won't get lost among all the highrise construction announcements?
