I know I've been gone a long time, but the next couple of weeks will make up for it, I can promise you that. :D

First off, let's do the photothreads. Here's Woodstock!

Small town an hour away from Fredericton on the TCH-2W, where the Meduxnekeag River flows into the Saint John River. These were taken the first week of April, and we had a late start to spring around here, so that's why there's snow still on the ground.

Starting the walkabout, every town has it's ugly government building.

Thanks for the pics. My grandparents grew up there and I've never seen it.

Nackawic is a planned town from the 1960s, built around the pulp mill. Not much there that doesn't scream mid-20th century utilitarianism. Instead of a downtown, there's a strip mall. Reminds me somewhat of Oromocto.

As for Woodstock: was kind of hoping there would be a shot of the Scotiabank (probably dating from the 90s) right on the other side of the bridge, that sticks out like a sore thumb. But maybe that's a good thing you didn't.

FYI: it's "Mid-DUCKS-neck-keg".

Good pics. Just looking at those pictures makes me cold, and think about the upcoming winter season.

Hey, just found out that Woodstock was New Brunswick's first incorporated town. In 1856.

Well you learn something new everyday.

I've never been to Woodstock. I've driven past a dozen times though. Someday, I guess. Good pics. Seems like a pretty bleak place...

Yeah, the snow on the ground (and the ice in the river) don't make it seem very pleasant, but it was actually a warm day for the season and was quite inviting (and friendly). Out of nowhere, some guy started telling me his track record with the Roll up the Rim campaign...not used to that kind of smalltown friendliness anymore. Fredericton has it, but it doesn't seem that way when you come from Cape Breton, so it was nice to see it wasn't exclusive to the island.

Anyway, I'm offtrack. Thanks for the FYI kirjtc2, I would never want to make an attempt and end up offending someone, so now I know. I also didn't know that about Nackawic, it does remind me of a small Oromocto though.

Thanks all for the comments. This was a town I've been wanting to get to for a while, so it's nice to see the good response.

Nice pics & thatnks for the jaunt down memory lane.-

I spent most summers in the mid eighties/early nineties in Woodstock. Quite a beautiful town in the non-winter months (similar I find in many ways to Sussex, NB and to a lesser extent Sackville, NB). There's been a fair amount of development away from the downtown core on the other side of town (Connell Road) in recent years - movie theatre, Wal Mart, Superstore, etc, etc, etc. Beautiful river drive between Woodstock and Hartland / Florenceville for those who havent done it.....
