SSP is a lot more user-friendly than SSC. I feel they do a better job here at SSP, better than any other skyscraper forum. Just my opinion.

Wow, th deadline is so far from now!
You should specify how many towers the complex should at least have. Maybe somebody wants to do a mall-ish complex (which I doubt) so maybe say something about if it's ok or not to do so.
Dac150
Oct 9, 2007, 1:33 AM
If its a complex, then it has to be more than one building. But it's your comp. austin.
Austin55
Oct 9, 2007, 1:37 AM
it is clearly stated in the rules
should be atleast 3 buildings of decent Size
this can include say,a tower connected to a podium would count for 2 building. the rules can be bent abit.

O.K. I think I'll be finished with my entry today, but do I just post my entry here or p.m. it Austin? Hope you all don't drop out and finish soon.
Tips:
1.Just pick a location that way you don't design a square plaza, it can be from a S.U. city or a real city. When you have a location look at buildings around it so you can choose an architectural style that goes best with the complex and surroundings. Complexes are in big blocks compared to it's surroundings or in more than 2 blocks.
2.Choose a height that goes best with the design of complex and surroundings so you don't make something too tall or too short.
3.Try to add smaller buildings under 75 feet because complexes usually have malls, museums, etc...
4.Bridges are common in complexes so you might want one or two.
5.Hotels, Office, Retail, and residential are also common.
6.Small roads cross the complex usually.
7. Fountains and plazas will help your complex look nice and add color to the complex.
8. Grass, tree, flowers also add colors and make the complex environmentally friendly =).
9.Usually a complex has a tall structure which can be a monument, freestanding structure, or building.
Oh, it will help if you draw some buildings in paper and you can also be inspired by a real building. I know I was. You don't need all those things in a complex, I just posted them to help you peeps.
Edit:
Never mind I read it in the page before that I should post my complex here, I'll post my entry later today.

"1.Just pick a location that way you don't design a square plaza, it can be from a S.U. city or a real city"
But before the rule was that it had to be from a real city. So now we can just make it directly to our cities?
Aleks
Nov 4, 2007, 7:42 PM
I don't think it has to be a real city. We'll have to ask Austin he's the one who made the competition..
Well does it have to be a real city Austin? Because my complex was designed in some made up blocks, Also thanksgiving is far away right? So let's just make the deadline on the tenth or something like that.

I am doing a really big complex.
two 200m- towers (hotel + office) and a two lo rises (retail + ship terminal)
I am doing the complex in a real location, so once I export a .kmz how do I PLACE it in my desired location and not in Boulder COlorado.... It's causing me a headache
Aleks
Nov 6, 2007, 6:38 AM
What do you mean Vertical?
All you need is to open a S.U. file with your desired location, go to file, click on import, and choose your model.
After than just double click on your model twice to open the "model."
Move buildings around and you are done. Oh, you might want to right click on your model and on the small options window click on explode. That way it's easier to edit the model.
If that's not what you meant then sorry please explain again.
Anyways, I think we need a deadline set, or else it wouldn't be a competition. Let's make it soon but not too soon. How about Friday? I was going to post my design but I'll wait for the deadline date.

My entry includes 3 towers and 2 small buildings. The complex includes retail, residences, a hotel, office, restaurants, and parks/plazas. The tallest tower is a mix between condos and offices, the second tallest tower; a building "completed" in 1920; is a mix of luxury residential and office, the third tallest is a hotel/condo building and the smallest one is a luxury mall.

Western Tower:
Floors: 47 (26 Office, 17 Residential, 1 Observation, 2 lobby/service, 1 empty)
Height: 621 feet
Use: Office, Residential
Facts: The Western Tower was finished in 1920 an opened in June, 4th, 1920. When it first opened it was the 4th tallest building in the world and the tallest outside New York City. The design came from the Seattle Smith Tower which was opened in 1914; the architect was born in Seattle and fell in love with the Smith Tower so he based the Western Tower on the Smith Tower's design. Bought in 2005 (due to large amount of vacancy) by the Ritz-Carlton Company, it was decided to restore the old building to it's original beauty and turned into condominiums. The plan did not work out due to people who protested so that the tower would not become a hotel. Today the tower is a mix of office and some of the most luxurious condominiums on the Western Hemisphere.

I decided to do something I didn't think anyone else would. A main sticking point with me was making sure that all of the buildings in the complex corresponded with each other, rather than having a couple of buildings that seemed unrelated to each other more or less. So, here it is (get ready for picture hell: I think there's almost 30 pictures here):
Aurora Boardwalk Hotel and Casino
Atlantic City, NJ
Aurora is located on the Atlantic City Boardwalk between Connecticut Ave and Massachusetts Ave:

Now for some individuals:
This is Tower Four in the complex. It stands at 15 stories (including the casino) and rises to 214'.

Tower Three is 24 stories and 330' including the casino.

This is Tower One, which is 26 stories and 372' including the casino.

This is the parking garage, which has five levels and is 52' tall.

And finally, this is the observation tower, which stands and 1,158' and towers over the rest of Atlantic City, affording some of the best views around.

Flyers! Just great, I really the style, it is very Atlantic City, the observation tower adds a googie touch.
Is the huge roof of the casino used in some way?
I gotta say that I share to some extent the concept of "familly of buildings" for this project, and the curved façades.
KUDOS!
PD: actually the only pic that makes hell outa the xprience is the first jpeg sate one.
PErhaps in the future we should begin converting them to PNG before posting'em.

all mine are png, jpg makes them very low quality.
if you're referring to the roof that goes over the boardwalk, it's there more or less for look.
