Port Dalhousie is a neighborhood in St. Catharines where Twelve Mile Creek empties into Lake Ontario. Port Dalhousie was originally a separate town and was the Lake Ontario gateway to the original Welland Canal. The area was settled in 1820 when the first Welland Canal opened up, and was incorporated as a village in 1862. Port Dalhousie was amalgamated with St. Catharines in 1961.

Mary Star Of The Sea Roman Catholic Church on Anne Street was built in 1875 using the funds from sailors hwo had been shipwrecked. The church's steeple could be seen from the lake by ships, until an Easter storm knocked it down one year.
