Guys, I wanted to get a gauge on what you really think we should call the Canada Line.
Please select the name you prefer, or if I do not include - please state your own name. Perhaps this poll would give the powers to be some insight that we might see as much needed changes.
Canada Line (keep it like In-Transit wants)
SkyTrain Canada Line (let's have a complete, simple rapid transit NETWORK)
SkyTrain Blue Line (get rid of Expo and Millennium and go with colours for a simple rapid transit NETWORK)
SkyTrain Olympic Line
SkyTrain RAV Line
Canada 40/50 metre platform is ridiculous Line
Hongcouver Line
Other
We have a grade separated, third rail network that started being called SkyTrain, so I think we should stick to it nonetheless. What do you think?

Definitely the "SkyTrain Canada Line".
I'd prefer SkyTrain Olympic Line, but being realistic here lets just go with SkyTrain Canada Line.

i think skystrain rav line is better, because canada line will be misunderstood by people thinking it will be across canada.

I would've loved it if it was SkyTrain Olympic Line, but obviously, it's not, so I'm going to say SkyTrain Canada Line. I bet you 9 out of 10 people will call it SkyTrain no matter what...

in the end... it doesn't really matter.

Skytrain will just be the informal name for the whole rapid transit system.
It's not as if you say you're going to take the "Skytrain Millennium Line" or the "Skytrain Expo Line". So you're not going to say the "Skytrain Canada Line".
It'll be "Skytrain" generically, or "Expo Line", "Millennium Line" or "Canada Line" specifically.

It would be dumb if they called it something other than Skytrain, because that is what everyone is going to call it anyways.

To me the most important thing is not whether the Canada Line is branded SkyTrain: our entire network of automated rapid transit lines are branded SkyTrain. I just hope our system maps on board the current Skytrains include the Canada Line...

Of course they will.
The fare system and bus scheduling will all be integrated for the Canada Line.
Check out the Concession Agreement on the Canada Line website.
http://www.canadaline.ca/pubLibDocs.asp?ID=4#38
For those of you hinging on the branding of the system, I noticed this clause which I hadn't noticed before. The words "GVTA's regional transportation system identity" could open the door for "Skytrain" to appear on the vehicles (if not elsewhere). Note that "System" means Canada Line.

This clause could allow "Skytrain" to appear on system posters in the stations:

^ Very interesting. If Translink does want to brand the Canada Line as part of the SkyTrain network it would seem that the concession agreement would support it.
"System identity" seems to be the key word in that part of the concession agreement. Without a doubt the system identity of rapid rail-based transit in Vancouver is SkyTrain. It seems to me like there should be no doubt that the Canada Line will join the Millennium and Expo Lines under the common SkyTrain umbrella brand.
While it isn't something I think about on a day to day basis, this is actually a load off my mind.
Thanks OfficeDweller for the first rate detective work.

Expo Line built for or around expo
Millenium Line built built around 2000
Olympic line built for or around the Olympics
It just fits with the theme

it would be the ideal name, but unfortunately there has been a lot of political interference this time around. Politicians don't want to associate the Canada Line with Olympic costs, and the federal government wanted it to be named after them in exchange for funding.
"Canada Line" is indeed ridiculous. Think of what tourists will think...even the media made fun of it awhile ago, "The RAV Line, or now known the Canada Line - yes that's what it's called, is..." - Deborah Hope.
Think about if we went to another nation and rode their train that was called:
America Line
Australia Line
China Line
Brazil Line
France Line
Britain Line
Singapore Line
Italy Line

They paid more than Translink - $300M or YVR $300M. InTransitBC actually is paying the most - over $700M. Guess that means it should be called the SNC Lavalin Line.

exactly! i think BC should actually be a country itself... not Quebec. The Federal Government doesn't care about the west anyways...

you know OD, in Japan they call their systems by the mfgr and/or operator - Metetsu or Kintetsu, for instance. So your idea wouldn't be too out-of-place.
I was giving some more thought and I actually like the colour idea. Instead of having names like Expo, Millennium, and Canada Lines, why not have colours (Red, Yellow, Blue). This would make things easier for tourists to use the system and allow a seemless SkyTrain network.
Anyways, (of course) I voted for SkyTrain Canada Line but I wouldn't be opposed to naming it SkyTrain Blue Line either (if they changed the other two into colours), to simplify and unify things.
Imagine if you gave someone directions: 'Oh, after you land at YVR, just hop on the SkyTrain Blue line towards downtown, at the City Hall station, transfer to the SkyTrain Yellow line which will take you to the Museum of Anthropology at UBC', (we'd drop the SkyTrain tho and just call it colours in reality)
Instead of 'Oh, after you land at YVR, just hop on the Canada Line towards downtown, at the City Hall Station, transfer to the SkyTrain Millennium Line which will take you to the Museum of Anthropology at UBC.'
to me, the easier one is better (and Im sure to most tourist as well). But, if we can't have colours, let's have a unified SkyTrain metro network!!!!!

I doubt the name of Red Line will be approved to use instead of Canada Line because of potential copyright infringement with the "Red Line" marque used as the high-performance trim of Saturn cars.

call it the "KOREALINE" since the trains are built in korea,

Yeah, I rode Kintetsu and JR trains when I visited Japan.
With an increasing number of lines, colours do make sense. Over time, the names may fall away and the colours may take over.

lol, simply solution for any copyright infringements regarding coloured lines: Red Skyline, blue Skyline, etc.

It might be a better name for the line that runs to Coquitlam, since the trains will be full of Koreans.

Or just the initials would do. A fair number of people here use M-Line, E-Line...

Terry Fox Line sounds better, and it better represents the NES sector...we can use "Spirit" for another line that needs a name.
