My vote is the So Good Restaurant on Somerset. Anybody?

The So Good is alright, but for me it's a close race between the Shanghai, the Mekong, Cam Kong and the Chu Shing.

Have you had the spicy crispy beef or the general tao's chicken there? Nobody in Ottawa comes close...

Not at the So Good, but don't count Cam Kong out just yet. ;)
Their General Tao's chicken is nuts.
They also have these delicious noodles in peanut sauce with pork adn chicken... Mmm, soooo good.

Cam Kong for General Tso chicken
For out and out Chinese I think Jadeland is hard to beat. Man's Kitchen has some good stuff too.

So Good and Shanghai if you're vegetarian. Otherwise, I dunno, but I'd reckon that each of those places have awesome meat dishes based on the non-meat ones.

Chinatown is way too small in this town, but Jade Gardens is the most authentic Chinese food in Ottawa. Small and loud but the food best resembles some common Chinese cooking, not the Americanized sweet and sour pork balls or egg rolls. Real Asians don't eat that crap...

Ging Sing has the best take-out/delivery ....fresh veggies, authentic, and cheap!

I really like the Mekong. Their food is great and it's a fun place to eat with a few friends and share dishes.

For anyone out in Kanata, Rideau Restaurant on Hazeldean is great.

I agree with you it is good food. It is actually on Eagleson @ 500 Eagleson. Be careful about ordering take out...if they tell you it will be ready in 20 minutes, arrive in 15 or less...its usually ready.

I love living near Chinatown; because at lunch times most places have your order ready in 10-15 minutes. Sooooo gooooooood!!! :P

Spring Roll King on Rideau Street near my place does a kick ass crispy beef. The place is run by a young Chinese couple with 2 kids. They're just a small take-out place with 4-5 bar stools against the window.
So Good rules
Just had BenBen last night (So Good was closed) and it was only medium good, the General Tsao's sucked. Altho, it did have the best Singapore noodles I've had in Ottawa, even better than So Good. I think our little China town rules, nice street, winding along down a hill, very cool.

I've always found the So Good decent, but not great.
Dunno if you've ever been to Cam Kong, but the General Tao chicken is pretty damn spicy and tasty. They also make the most amazing noodles and peanut sauce there. Mmm.....
On another note, who here is with me on the assumption that Chinatown will continue to expand westward all the way into Hintonburg? :)
I've noticed that they've already crossed the bridge up to Somerset Square... :haha:

Interesting concept. I have noticed a couple of places by Takaki (with great soups, by the way), but there is pretty limited scope for Chinatown to really push into Hintonburg, unless they act fast before the wave of gentrification sweeps in from the west. Personally, I thought Booth and Rochester Street were more logical extensions of Chinatown (Rochester could legitimately be called an Emerging Mainstreet).

True, but I was in the area a few weeks ago and noticed a lot of English/Chinese signs in the area. :haha:

Those are the logical assumptions, but I don't really see too much happening on either of those streets. And is there really a lot of room for expansion along Booth Street?
