Well, we just moved to Columbus, so I thought i'd do the usual and get some skyline pictures :-) Also my wife is from Toledo, so I got a few skyline shots of that city as well. These are from a month ago or so, but I was planning on getting more, but now its too cold :(

Enjoy!

Nice pics, in all fairness though, that's not really "all" of Columbus' skyline. But they are nice pics. It can be hard to get a full shot of all of the cities downtown buildings, because you need to be a way back. I recommend north bank park in the arena district for a shoot.

Try standing on the rail bridge at the southern tip of North Bank Park... good view from there. Just watch out for trains!

The empty building in the left of the pictures of Toledo is the Fiberglas Tower. It was the home of Owens-Corning until the late 90s at which point they built a new headquarters downtown. Their new building isn't included in the picutres, but it is a low-rise building that sits on an "island" downtown. Structurally the building is sound, but it is filled with asbestos and requires a significant investment before any tenant could ever step foot in the building. It is currently listed as being for sale (reportedly now less than $7 million IIRC), but I don't see any sale ever going through since estimates of minimum renovations are $20-30 million.

There was some talk a year or two ago of demolishing Fiberglas Tower to make way for a new arena. However, it was determined that it would cost several million dollars to demolish so that plan was abandoned. Directly adjacent to the Fiberglas Tower the county is now building that new 10-12 thousand seat arena and will be used for hockey, arena football, basketball, and concerts.

Also of note, the block rectangles seen at the top of the former Owens-Illinois building (the tallest building in the pictures) now read "Fifth Third Bank." The black rectangles were added a couple weeks before the the new name went up.

Thanks for the info! I saw the "fifth third bank" titles last week when I was in Toledo...i think it takes away from the building personally. At some point maybe i'll get some pictures of the new bridge that takes 280 over the river...i'm not a fan of the rainbow spike on the bridge either :-/

I agree with him about the pics of Columbus, but my personal favorite angle of Columbus' skyline is coming south on 3rd/Summit Street right around the on-ramp for 670; you hit the diagonals of the city's street grid, i.e. all the buildings block the holes and makes C-bus look denser than it is.

I tried to put the map in (admittedly I didn't try long) but if you go to mapquest and put in (Summit @ 1st) it'll show you around where I mean.
