I know in previous proposals there were removable bollards that would go across King st to allow it to temporarily closed. Being downtown this weekend for Oktoberfest got me thinking, this isn't being done with the current project (or maybe it will be) but is that something that could be added later on down the road?
It'd look a whole lot better than the orange construction barricades.

They're probably going to put hardware in for that when they do the top layer of paving. I can't imagine they'd drill into the ground every time they need to block the road off; they'll probably need some sort of bracket to snap or screw them into.

That makes sense. I wasn't sure if they could install them just under one layer of asphalt or if they'd have to set them a little deeper.

Good Job Kitchener. The Pedestrian Friendly route was the way to go! Now you need to fix up the facades.

There seems to be work happening on places within phase one. I bet we'll see work on places in the second part when phase two is done.
Businesses should also take advantage of the grant program for improving facades.

From http://www.kitchener.ca/pdf/yourkitnews_2009_nov_dec.pdf:
Preliminary design work has started on the process to extend features of the King Street reconstruction project along College Street; and along Young Street up to the city-hall parking garage.
Those features include:
new street trees with tree guards and tree up- lighting;
planter beds and pots;
street lights;
benches;
moloks;
bollards;
bike racks, and
new paving stones.
The scope of these aspects of the reconstruction project is expected to be finalized soon.
Also, some shots from the City's website - http://www.kitchener.ca/city_hall/departments/downtown/downtown_reconstructing_king_st.html:

The new piece of art at Speakers Corner. It says "public speaking" around the base.

I think these beds will look really nice come spring time and when everything is complete with the granite cladding and the lights are installed. I wonder if the lights are the same as those on King st. I'd guess so.
