The third prize reminds me of the Vancouver Conference Centre now under construction (http://forum.skyscraperpage.com/showthread.php?t=138016)

I do like the first prize very much. Very nice.

I like the first prize! And I like Krakow at all, it is my favourite city. Where should be the congress center located? How far from Rynek glowny? And what about its capacity? What about construction start and end?

It will be located opposite the Wawel Castle (on the other side of the Vistula River), some 2 km away from Rynek Glowny (the Market Square)

that's about where the two white-blue buses are:

There will be 3 halls with the capacity of 1800, 600 and 300. the main hall will be adaptable so as to seat up to 2100 people in the "congress mode". the construction should start in 2009 when the design/paper work is completed, and is expected to take 2 years (till 2011). the intention is to have it finished before Euro 2012.

Greets from Krakow:)

Oh, thank you very much. I did not notice Wawel on that visualisation :) And I think that the location is fantastic, it reminds me our situation in Bratislava with castle and Incheba exposition center.

Btw, what is that high-rise on that panorama under construction? Any info (height etc. :))

It's been under construction for the past 30 years;) But now Hans Kollhoff (the designer of the Potsdamer Platz office building
http://www.kollhoff.de/images/pro/ppl.jpg) has been commissioned to redesign it. it's likely to be over 100 m. high (now 98 m.) and a part of a larger complex of buildings (hotel, apartaments, offices, probably a restaurant). It's expected to be completed within 4-5 years.

 to Bratislava:)

So it is going to be a part of some CBD? I cannot imagine Krakow with the high-rises. I remember that I saw that unfinished building and did not like it at all :)

No, those other buildings are going to be much shorter, so business district is out of the question. the tower itself is viewed by some as an urban planning mistake. if they were to demolish it, they wouldn't get permission to build anything this high in that place. that's why, given the fact the structure is sound, they just want to reshape it.
BTW, I have nothing against high-rises in Krakow. but in a different location, so they fit into the city's panorama.

I think that high-rises are not suitable for Krakow. Like in Budapest, the city like Krakow is nice the way it is. For example, there are the high-rises in Vienna, but not many of them and the central CBD looks a little strange. Btw, where is that high-rise u/c located? How far? Which city part? Sorry, I don't know Krakow so much yet :)

krakow viewed from the South. the building is on the far right of the picture. now orientate yourself:) (it's about 1,5 - 2 km. from the Market Square to the East)

When do they begin?

Actually, they have just started, but the progress is very low since all contruction works are now limited to groundwork. As far as I know, the building will be completed in 2013. So be patient:)
