Yup, went by this morning and it is almost up. Looks like an expansion of the seniors housing complex. This will be a pretty small building - doesn't even have a basement.

^Well I didn't want to make them the most important part of the list. It's really all about keeping track of which projects have cranes, despite what some people have said about this list being a way to boast what the total is.

As far as format goes, I'm all about the greyscale and ascii dividers.

I can see in the near future that every crane that is listed will eventually have a type and model number. Only us folks at SSP will take the time to go the extra mile.

EEEL won't be ready for its crane for a month or so yet at the minimum and theres nothing showing on the web cam either. the third crane at EAP will in fact be another CTL630 luffer, it was supposed to go this weekend but was rescheduled. I'm involved in the erection. The SK315 at Union will be climbed down and then dismantled this week, and i believe the Potain will be as well. The PC1600 (white one) at Bankers Court will also be coming down soon. It was supposed to happen this week as well but was scheduled at the same time as Union, not sure when it will go for sure.

I'm not sure of the job name, but it is the potain that is across from the SK315 at Union Square. They planned on taking down the potain then driving mammoet across the street to dismantle the 315, but that plan has changed, the potain will be climbed down beside the building and dismantled with a smaller mobile. interesting thing is due to the building, the cab won't fit down beside, so from what i've heard it will be taken off and put on the backjib.

Also, the Favcos for the Bow are arriving in Calgary. I went and looked at one in the yard, and they dwarf anything that is up right now! Max lift is somewhere around 140000lbs and 40000lbs flat out, which i think was around 50m radius. might be a little while before they go up since every pin and bolt needs to be inspected.

So about US, that is Mammoet's 500 tonne Liebherr, the same crane that was used at EAP, and the second tower at Centron Park. The luffing jib attachment is what makes it look so huge. even with 370' of HUH (height under hook) we still had to climb one section out of the 315. The mobile was having some problems with it's hydraulic pump, so mammoet is changing that today. We will be back in tomorrow to take down the tower. For anyone who wants to see it all scoped out, the mobile will be back up tomorrow.
As for Colours, i'm not sure when it will be coming down, they were flying trees up to the roof today, and they looked like they were almost finished up there. Should be down shortly though.
Also, the low crane at bankers is coming down this weekend, EAP's date is still tbd.. and the 400 on the roof of the core will need to be moved.

They just installed a couple of sections of the tower part that look identical to the Potain tower. There are no other parts on site yet, so who knows if this just means that the existing Potain is going to be moved over, or whether another whole crane is going up.

As far as the Favcos, I wonder if they sit on the steel(?) plates (at grade) to the west and east of where they are installing the crane today. It looks like there is extra bracing in the steel to those specific points. The plates look about the size of a crane base anyway, and I'm having a hard time thinking of what else those plates might be for.

I thought I remember that only one crane will construct the tower? The orignal diagrams show 3. Anyone know what the case actually is?

mersar
Oct 3, 2008, 7:18 PM
I'm thinking those plates aren't crane related, they are way too close to the existing crane base. Probably something related to the elevators is my guess. I'm expecting the other cranes will be closer to the ends of the building, mostly just to provide coverage to the entire floor plate which would be difficult from the middle if there were 3 cranes there.

Also looks like the 2 Favco cranes at the Bow will be M1280D's (100t) based on a small tidbit I just found on the Calgary local of the International Union of Operating Engineers' web site. They mention that the contractor was needing between 2 and 4 operators depending if they do a night shift as well once those cranes are up.

Bow is missing base #4, though #4 is going up right now. #4 I believe is a Favelle Favco M1280D. Once #4 is up, either #5 (another M1280D) will go up, or the Potain will be disassembled, and reassembled on the existing base, then #5 will go up if it didn't go first. Once #5 is up the Wolff will likely be taken down. We will probably see another base on the south block though before the end of the year.
