I wonder how long till people start calling it the BMO Tower now instead of the Marsland Centre? You know it's inevitable.

Oh, I hope that doesn't happen - the Marsland name is a part of Waterloo's heritage.

Sure... say what you want... but it is inevitable. Think of the BMO Tower in Toronto. No one calls it First Canada Place. Corporations (banks in this case) know branding works on buildings. That's one reason why they do it.

I generally get blank stares when I tell people I work at the Marsland Centre...BMO Building they will probably recognize better in a year or two.
Many people I work with refer to the building as First Canadian Place (not the BMO Tower)

/\ OK, bad example. I'm sure there are some others.
Thunder Bay Hydro owns the Whalen Building, but we call it the Hydro Building. Before Hydro was in there, it was the Public Utilities Commission (P.U.C.) Building, which many people (mostly older ones) call it. No one calls it "The Whalen Building" even though that's its name.
Granted, it is a little-known example and yes, the building is 100 years old so there have been many generation changes since then, but still, it is an example of how a corporation can change a building's identity by having it's sign located there.

Well, ten years from now, people are probably going to still be calling it BCE Place rather than Brookfield Place.
