fround this info:
Official Warner Bros. photos of the New York City backlot located on Byrne Rd. and Marine Ave. in Vancouver. They show the newsstand and the two Bernies, the Treasure Island comic book store, a pawn shop, the Gunga Diner, and our exclusive photo of the Rumrunner bar door. The last three images are city scene panels taken from the graphic novel. For more insight on these photos, read our news article.

It's insane how they can make something like that from scratch. The amount of detail that must go into it is mind-boggling. Thanks for posting the pics.

They could have just used the DE. When I first looked at the pictures I assumed that's where they were taken.

This is supossed to take place in 1985 with a poster of Richard Nixon asking for four more years?
Something ain't right here.....

Maybe its a sign of New York's desperation of the 1980's - abandoned or rough neighborhoods where old signs from the past were never cleaned up.
Wait, after reading details it looks like maybe the movie has different time periods:
Some of the things you'll find in alt-NY: 100 unique and custom-designed graphics created for the various storefronts, 5,000 square feet of custom posters, 1,040 feet of 1:1 scale New York streets and a whole lot of creativity. In addition, the street had to work for 1938, 1945, 1953, 1957, 1964, 1974, 1975, 1977, and 1985.

it was re-created based on a comic panel
there is a website that shows comic panels next to the movie sets and they are pretty much exactly the same with the set versions being slightly better
even down to the people in the scenes - like the guy in the newstand and the guy sitting beside
its pretty cool

Well looks like New York will be much more realistic than Rumble in the Bronx. It seems that the New York City Mountain Range has disappeared.

Not exactly a movie, but I randomly came across this pic on flickr and thought it was kind of cool (filming for Smallville):
