I'd rather have quality built stations that look decent but are functionable and cheaper on me the taxpayer, then something that looks like it'll be badly dated in 5 years and have cost a fortune and probably not be very functionable or well built.

I don't think it's THAT nice... honestly, I'm happy what we have (maybe not the Expo line ones) as they fit perfectly in the surroundings. I can't see something like that replace Renfrew Station for instance... it wil just look ODD.

Pretty sweet but I'd prefer if the money that would go to impressive architecture was instead diverted towards system expansion with basic but effective stations. I'd love it if all the stations had great, timeless architecture but I'd mark basic expansion as a higher priority at this stage of the game.
What we really need is some more interesting tower architecture, with developers footing the bill.

Those stations are pretty cool. I agree it wouldn't be practical to build all stations as incredible as those ones. Maybe a good idea would be to build a few flagship stations with superior design in busy/high profile locations.Basically what Translink is doing with Broadway/Main/Metrotown station on the Expo line.

they'd be great if they were like in the middle of nowhere, they'd act as great landmarks. But in the dense downtown environment, it would be kinda weird imo. and i'm not sure if it'll age well since it does have those same white panels the Expo Stations have in downtown.

I agree with Jlousa for the most part, as I would take functionality of both the system and specific stations as a whole over asthetic design any day. However I do agree completly with Vanman and X2, especially since Vancouver's ecoonomy derives much of its money from the tourist trade. I think the city should keep some of its more central and touristy stations very up to date, and build important new stations with some, dare i say it, innovative architecture. It would provide more bang for your buck than making all the stations interesting, and would allow Vanocuver to keep itself looking fresh and innovative for tourists.

Personally, i like the new NYC 2nd avenue subway station designs better than those futuristic designs:

Vancouver Centre would be awesome if it looked like that.
So do we have any idea what the inside of our stations will look like yet? I just remember seeing the orange-red tile design thing which was a render for Oakridge, I think.

Im quite a fan of Roppongi Hills Station in Tokyo. It is probably the most modern station in Japan. It really is funny how small time our biggest stations are or will be compared to their smallest multi-track, multi-20 car train, station. If the Japanese know one thing, it is density.

I think so also but since it's possible to have all that and also have a cool design why not have both? (& have them built on schedule & on budget too)
I don't get why the inspiration for SkyTrain stations has to come from stations in other cities. Just like any other building the inspiration can come from another, totally unrelated building imho. (of course functionality/practicality has to be considered though)

Berlin's metro is fantastic, especially with the S-bahn going across the city. The extension looks great, although it is true that a lot of the older stations are ugly.
If the steel mesh on the exteriors of Expo line stations was replaced with glass, like on M-Line stations, they would look a lot cleaner. With the mesh there, you can't see how the external steel structure holds the roof, so the simplicity of the design is hidden.

Paint everything white/light gray, add new lights, replace metal mesh screens with glass, new tiling on floor, and add a few skylights to our expo line, we get:U-Bahn stations!!!!!
