While Big Bear Village in the San Bernardino Mountains near Los Angeles gears up for the winter as the two ski areas kick into gear, many summer cabins around the lake quietly go to sleep before the snow sets in. As these areas prepare to hibernate, the end of fall brings a crisp air loneliness along the lakeshore.

Great photos and an adorable dog, thanks for sharing. I bet they're going to get a little snow tonight.
Finally, LA got some rain!

Thanks guys!

With all the rain we received down here, I expected a lot more snow. However, Big Bear is only reporting a “dusting of snow” from the last storm. I too am heading up there again in a few weeks and hoping for a lot more snow before then.

This was not a cold storm. Here in Arizona, snow was predicted only above 8000 ft. But I see no evidence of it even there--the mountains I see from my house top out at 9453 ft (Mt. Wrightson) and I was surprised NOT to see any snow up there today. I am at 3000 ft and we sometimes (rarely) get snow with the really cold storms from the Gulf of Alaska but nothing like that this time.

Anyway, nice to see Big Bear--it's very pretty and the lay of the land (other than the lake itself) reminds me of the Russian River area in NoCal.
