What a beautiful building. Shame it was torn down.

It looked okay but there are plenty of nicer buildings in downtown Vancouver and the building that replaced it is fairly nice. It seems strange that they would tear down such a large building back then, however. Was there something wrong with it?

this isn't Calgary...why would a building like that be torn down here?

Apparently it didn't meet earthquake requirements.

The nurses on Cathedral Place are replicas. Not sure about that building above.

The Georgia Medical Dental Building would have cost too much to earthquake-proof. It was an L-shaped building (like the Hotel Georgia) with an unworkable floorplate (for modern office space) and low ceilings by modern standards. It was designed by Carter & McNairn (sp?) - same architects as the Marine Building.
