Hi again.

Here are 30 pictures from my Boston trip - this time of the financial district and vicinity.

My other Boston posts:
Charlestown (http://forum.skyscraperpage.com/showthread.php?t=142186)
North End (http://forum.skyscraperpage.com/showthread.php?t=141654)
Beacon Hill (http://forum.skyscraperpage.com/showthread.php?t=141496)

I started at the Post Office Square parking garage.

I have never been in Boston, neither have I been in New York. But when I look at the pictures of both cities on this site, I like Boston better. There is a more European atmosphere. The city looks more relaxed to me.

Nice pics once again.

North Street is so empty and lifeless without the elevated rail. I miss that thing.

You mean Causeway St.? You're the first person I've heard express that opinion, I'm sure.:) A few years ago I was down there taking photos, but I didn't even think to take any "before" pictures to contrast with the "after" of now. What was I thinking?

I remember walking to a Bruins came a few years back and have very distinct memories of Causeway st...it's true that the elevated green line was cool and maybe even somewhat gritty, but most are glad to see it gone. Yes, the street looks lifeless now, but the entire Bulfinch Triangle area is about to be redeveloped.

Gotta say though, riding the T on those rickety tracks was kind of fun.

Right, Causeway Street... I was thinking of North Station. I tend to think that densely-layered cities are very interesting. Without the elevated rail, Causeway Street is just ordinary. There's nothing to distinguish it from better-looking or busier streets elsewhere.

Similarly, I'm disappointed with the new park space where the Central Artery used to be. I'm glad the highway is no longer there, but the park just seems so empty and uninspired. It seems like more innovative things could have been done with the space, like expanding the Haymarket or something else that generates activity and draws people. The barrier of the highway has been replaced by the void of poorly-conceived open space.

Holy crap, this is a gold mine. Are these your pics? If so, thank you! Some of the most comprehensive neighborhood tours I've ever seen. You would almost never see Dudley or Egleston on this site...and tons of my hometown Brookline at that! Anyone interested in lesser known Boston neighborhoods check this stuff out.

Great photos of Boston greenday38. Also, it's strange not seeing the elevated green line since when I visited Boston it was still up and running. Even stayed in a small hotel right by it.

Good stuff.

Just want to point out that what you see in that picture is not the Greenway ... it's one of the Bullfinch Triangle parcels. That entire area is going to be rebuilt.

Blade,

Yeah those are all mine, except for the ones in newburgh, one from albany and the ones from chicago. I took them about 3,4 years ago and posted them on this website way back then. I have a comprehensive set of Allston Brighton, and the Fens but I didnt have the space to put them on. Right now they are languising in my laptop which is not working. If you really want to see them let me know. It'll actually be a good incentive to get my laptop up and running again.

I should really start doing that again, when I stopped I was going to start working on cambridge.

For some reason the pic isnt working right now. Guess anyone who wants to see should just follow the link.

Nice. It's good to see that there is a plan to develop that vast open space (the part of the "bullfinch triangle").

I was just there about 1 month ago for my first time. The only other northeastern city I've been to in NY and I liked Boston much better. The city had a very French influence in architecture which was strange to me because there is no large French population/culture present.

Can't wait to go back!

Good job. The Greenway will be a work in progress for decades. Two museums and 1 YMCA are in the works to cover certain portions. These developments along with the Bullfinch parcels will hopefully add life to the area. A lot of the grassy areas are temporary as different organizations work to get financing in place. Regardless, even a grassy plain is better than the central artery.

what is with the European thing?

why does everyone one their cities to look like European?

I went to Europe, it was not that impressive. Each city should have their own feel. Why should we want to copy others?

You must be referring to the Back Bay which was built largely in the Second Empire style.

Great photos. Boston's downtown looks great. One thing though, TD Banknorth Garden is about the worst sounding name for a professional sports venue that I've ever heard.
