I only live 3 hours north, and yet I haven't visited Portland in years. So I am rectifying that by coming down this weekend - I will be in on Friday night 12/14 and leave Sunday 12/16. I know Portland kind of well in terms of neighborhoods but haven't the faintest clue in terms of restaurants, bars, shopping, things like that.

Since there is no sales tax () I will probably be doing a fair amount of holiday shopping - is it true that you can get to the new ikea via max?

Anyway, suggestions and stuff would be recommended. I might be up for meeting as well.

How late does MAX run or Tri-met buses in general?

(Sorry no one answered your question in time! I'm not a fan at all of the expanded Portland forum; there's really only ONE subforum people here read. Not this one. :) Enough people complained, and now we have a bunch of unread/unseen forum topics. Great.)

Yup, the MAX goes to Ikea; just get off at Cascade Station on the Red/Airport line.

To be safe, I'd say plan to take your last bus/MAX by midnight, but some buses stop running as late as 2...very few lines, though, and infrequently. Check www.trimet.org for more info.

Have fun!
