It's great to see Uptown businesses doing well.

In terms of the parking issue, what we have here is the 'old guard' who want to protect surface parking spaces, but the new businesses recognize they need to go. It's a transitionally time, but as you can see, the new views in Uptown are winning. :)

You're being too kind WaterlooInvestor. It's the 'old goats'. :haha:
The parking issue has been proven over and over again to be in check. It's just the spots are in different places as you already stated.

The old timers need something to bitch about I guess... so goes the stereotype.

Angie's Kitchen... never been there, no desire. They should worry less about parking and more about their building and image.

Ali Baba... been there once, won't go again. I'm not too enthusiastic about businesses that haven't updated their venue within the last decade and that's not dealing with the food or value even.

Same two businesses always in the news bitching about the changes. It's getting so tiresome and I am getting so tired about thinking about it. I'm done.

My god, let's hope!

By the way, does anyone even use the parking garage across the street from WTS?

Weekdays during the day it gets some use form city hall workers and the rest. Otherwise... not so much. Festivals?

Great article, timely for my redevelopment project of the area in a design class I have.

I have more info I'll try to post whenever I have the time. Basically during weekdays Levels 1, 3, and 4 are well used, levels 2 and 5 are ~half-used, and level 6 isn't used at all. During the weekend, usage runs at about 25% on level 1 and is non-existent on the upper levels. I haven't seen any parking reports regarding festival usage, so it would be hard for me to say exactly, however from my own observations some of the garage is used during festivities although not all.

It would be interesting if the city did an inventory of parking in the Uptown Area and did a survey to see how much use it recieves. I personally have never had an issue with parking Uptown and it seems that there is an abundance of it. In that single stretch, there is the parking behind the KPMG/LCBO/etc, which I've never seen close to full, there is the parking at WTS, which can be quite full during the day, there is the parking garage across from WTS, and there is the parking around City Hall. Business owners need to get their heads screwed on straight if they're concerned about parking.
