From paradigm's flickr pics:
Proposed Wayfinding Pylon. Features a new "T" symbol which, apparently, TransLink is going to use as a beacon for all it's major transit services. Similar to the other "T" or "M" symbols found on other major metro systems around the world.

This is something I've said we needed for quite some time, an easily identifiable universal transit symbol for Metro Vancouver. In my opinion, the (T) rivals with the other symbols shown above and easily beats the SkyTrain logo:

Love it. Now they just have to put them in all at once instead of so slowly that it never really sticks.
I like the Montreal logo cause it's not just a letter, but also a reasonably descriptive and distinctive symbol.

Love it!! I like the one on the pylon better, since it seems to be italicized and has some other lines and stuff thrown in; but why is the map so high on the pole? That woman would definitely not be able to read 3/4's of the map

no wonder why all the renderings had T vs. the SkyTrain logo or TransLink's logo. Personally, I prefer TransLink's logo better but i guess TransLink is the authority for transportation in Metro Vancouver rather than transit in general.
I'm guessing they would keep SkyTrain logos for the SkyTrain right?

by the time they build them humans will have evolved and be on average 2 feet taller ;)

I remember seeing this a few months ago and thought it was just what Translink needed for universal branding for their services. I even came up with my own varied designs on it for Buses and Seabus. I think 'T' works well because not only does it represent Translink but it also covers 'transport' and 'trains' for those not in the know, like visitors.

love the Tokyo one. and I like Montreal too. I don't really like the "T" though. A rounded Font would look better and evoke the imagery of a round tunnel better.

I've re-created the new Translink roundel(if they do decide to use it). I'm pretty happy with it 'cause I know they could have made it a lot worse going by past examples.

I know the blue and yellow is TL's whole branding scheme, but I don't really find it that appealing in the "T" circle symbol. I also would somewhat prefer them just making a universal transit symbol with the little swoosh guy they have on their logo...
Thanks for the link to my pics mr. x.

Great.
One catch: Translink has been dissolved and has a new name.

Yes, but the advertisements are at eye level, so it's ok! ;)

Translink is still called Translink, it's just that it is no more the "Greater Vancouver Regional Transportation Authority" but instead, the "South Coast Birtish Columbia Transportation Authority".

Iunno about that one....it's a good concept, but it doesn't really seem as distinct as the (T). Come to think of it, it does remind me of the British Royal Air Force logo during the World Wars.

Yup, the 2nd Avenue Broadway Station entrance rendering with the (T) has been out for well over a year....this was the work of "Old Translink".

Sounds like great ideas - I like both the symbol and the wayfinding pylon concepts. With just these little improvements Vancouver's transit system will seem significantly more mature and it will add another layer to Vancouver's urban landscape as well.

T != Translink.
T == Train.
But it can double as Translink... This way, should the name change, the symbol stays constant.
I still like Tokyo's.

The (T) looks good and should be readily recognizable as Transit, Train, Transportation, etc. as mentioned by others above.
The pylon looks too busy - i.e. the slats / layers at the top. Agreed that the map should low down to easily read and the advertisements should be high up to avoid vandalism by anti-commercialisation crusaders. Mind you, on that pylon, that's not a commercial advertisment at the bottom - it's a poster tack board for guerrilla advertisers so they don't deface the pylon (like you see on lampposts).
Overground,
I think that based on the renders posted by Paradigm, the yellow circle and T should be a bit bigger that you show (the yellow circle is larger and the T fills more of the yellow) - so it doesn't look like a billiards ball.

I noticed that the "T" for the information way finding pylon has a "swoosh" on it vs. the plain one rendered for Broadway Station. I would prefer the swoosh rather than the plain.

Looks nice, though I wish we could just have a universal sign for all transit systems in the world that would be the same everywhere. Anyways since thats not happening in my life time then this is a great improvement.

the pylon was close-up. the Broadway Station render was from far away, which is why it didn't have a swoosh....it's just a render.

'T' could stand for 'toilet'.
Unless it becomes accepted as the universal symbol for transit, I'd say it's a bad idea, and they're better off to use pictorial symbols.

I saw him as a runner. The feet (bottom horizontal swoosh), the head (sphere), and then from that point the running arms should be quite obvious.

If you look at the pylon on the first page then it does include picture symbols. So my guess would be all bus stops, and skytrain stops would have the T sign with a picture of the service that stops there included below it. I think it would be great

well it can be an interpretation of both. Sun, Mountain, Sea represents region whereas runner represents transportation.
