View Full Version : NB Meet?

First off, rules for the poll are choose all cities that you would be mobile to, only choose one for preference. As far as preference goes, you can not choose your hometown. For example, I cannot choose Fredericton, stupendous_mat2 cannot choose Moncton, and PostModernPrometheus cannot choose Saint John. I'll also make the poll public for that reason.
Now, if a meet were to happen in late February, who'd be up for it and where. Hopefully using this poll will get a good participation rate in the meeting. Forumers from outside NB would be welcome too, but the meet would take place in NB for NB forumer mobility reasons. :P Forumers from outside NB can choose any city as preference, but only if they can actually make it to that city.
Anyway, let's get this thing goin' 'eh!

Cool idea Smevo.
(Are we limited to cities, or do towns count?)
My non-hometown (including surrounding communities) possibilities (alphabetically):
Greater Fredericton
Mirimachi
Greater Moncton
Sussex
Woodstock
*** Sorry.....posted before the poll went up :S

If you want me to add towns, I can. I just assumed not enough of us would make the effort to go to say....Bathurst or Miramichi. Anyway, lemme know. :)

Cool idea! Im living in Freddy now, but I might be moving back to moncton in feb (my university is STUpid right now haha). Im able to go anywhere really, as I have a car, but I would prefer Freddy as Ill probably be coming back here every once and awhile anyways to visit my g/f.

Freddy would be best for me. but i can make it to a moncton meet on a weekend. gotta love those cars...

It would be cool to see everyone come out and make it. Kwajo may have some difficulty being in NF but I hope everyone here could make it out.
Just want to get some faces to these names

lol...myles, You broke the rules. :P You voted twice for preference, but since Moncton's your hometown, I'll take Fredericton as your vote. :)
^agree with you seely, I could be seeing the Fredericton guys every day and not even know it...lol.
ps- sorry to take away the only vote for Moncton as the preference so far. :(
mmmatt
Jan 23, 2008, 3:07 AM
but that makes no sense as there have been 6 voters and it says 3 voted for freddy, 2 for SJ and 1 for Moncton...in other words 6 votes it adds up.
EDIT: I see, PostModernPrometheus didnt vote a preference.

Great idea. Fredericton's obviously my first choice, but I could do Saint John or Moncton if given enough notice and my schedule allows.

Freddy has two advantages:
1) pretty central.
2) i'm here.
Both are win in my books.

Not to be completely biased but.....lol saint john is hour and 15 from moncton and 45-50 to freddy. Plus we do have a lot of forumers. BUt I am up to going anywhere We'll just need to set a date so i can see if my schedule(I am saying that the english way just to sound like an idiot) permits.

Jan 23, 2008, 3:09 PM
I was thinking sometime in the last two weeks of February on a weekend myself, meaning Sat 16, Sun 17, Sat 23, or Sun 24. Any of those dates would work for me, and gives almost a month notice to everyone.
We've got another rule breaker (I'm looking at you, michael_d40) :P.
mmmatt
Jan 23, 2008, 6:01 PM
Well as Im assuming that michael would vote for Freddy as its closer to him Im gonna say the actual vote count is
SJ - 2
MO - 0
FR - 4
Looking like freddy is winning so far :)

Well considering that Myles, kirjtc2, Smevo, Myself, FamilyGuy, and the other freddy forumers are already in freddy...and its much closer to you guys in SJ, I think Freddy has an advantage over other places, plus its a great city and its the one city in NB that never seems to be involved in our city vs city stupidness haha, so its neutral ground.

Jan 24, 2008, 5:32 PM
I was figuring we'd let the polls decide, a combination of mobility and preference. I left the voting open for too long though, so howsabout we say the poll closes at midnight on Feb 2?
michael_d40, I actually only knew because it's a public poll, you can see who voted for what. If SJ's the only place your able to attend a meet, then by default your preference would be there so I won't actually count your preference vote but will count your mobility, if that makes any sense. As for kwajo, seeing as he's in Newfoundland and it's a far trek, I'll let the preference for him slide.
So we've now got:
Saint John 3
Moncton 0
Fredericton 3
We could just meet in the middle, I'm sure there's plenty to do 10 minutes outside Geary! lol

How about under the overpass at Petersville Hill. We'd have shelter and everything...just gotta worry about being shot at by whoever's responsible for CFB Gagetown security :)
Smevo
Jan 26, 2008, 8:52 PM
If there's a tie in preference, we'll use mobility to break the tie. If it's still tied...flip a coin? lol
The overpass at Petersville hill sounds good...dodging bullets could be fun.

If we'll welcome micheal_d40 I guess we can welcome you too Helladog...friggin' rulebreakers. :P

Howsabout we set February 17 as the date. Any objections? I could also do the next Sunday, but basically that's the only day of the week I can do except possibly Saturday the 23rd.

I might be able to swing Friday, depends on work...might be a bad day for the travellers though with classes/work. Then again, I'll let them speak for themselves rather than make assumptions.
mylesmalley
Jan 31, 2008, 3:51 AM
I should say, if we were to do it on a weekday, Friday would be best. Any weekend is fine, just so long as the weather permits if it's anywhere other than Freddy Beach.

Seely32
Feb 2, 2008, 8:05 PM
So lets get a head count on who all could make it.
Helladog
Feb 2, 2008, 10:19 PM
What day are we talking about?
Smevo
Feb 4, 2008, 12:55 AM
Alright, so with voting (unofficially) closed, here's the final preference results:
Saint John.......Moncton..............Fredericton
Helladog..........JasonL-Moncton....HalifaxMtl666
kwajo.............mylesmalley...........mylesmalley
michaeld40................................stupendousmat2
Smevo
FamilyGuy
So basically, with 2 of the SJ votes voided because of hometown, both Moncton votes voided because of hometown, there's a tie between Fredericton and SJ. Mobility gives Fredericton the edge.
So why don't we say Sunday, February 17 in Fredericton. Now I'm trying to think of where in the city to meet with free parking.

No problems from me.
At risk of sounding ignorant...what sort of place does a typical SSP meet happen? A bar? I'd probably suggest the Hilltop if parking's the biggest issue...
(OT: can some explain what the @#&! happened to my beloved Patriots tonight?)
Seely32
Feb 4, 2008, 4:36 AM
I'd say somewhere were we could see some buildings or a nice view of downtown any ideas for those in fredericton I can make it but hopefully in the early afternoon.

Depends on the forumers I think, in warmer weather some do a "tour" of landmarks/construction sites, but this is far from warmer weather especially for a coastal boy like myself. :haha: Usually just meet over some food and drink I think, but I've never been to one myself either.
I think I jumped the gun on the free parking thing...even curbside is free on Sunday I'm pretty sure.
As for a place with a view...I don't think we'll find anything with a window view, but if we're anywhere in downtown we'd be immersed in the urban atmosphere upon stepping out onto the street.
Seely32
Feb 5, 2008, 9:50 PM
So we have a head and all we need now is a place and a time.
Any freddy forumers have ideas for a place?
mylesmalley
Feb 6, 2008, 12:17 AM
Hilltop is good. But there are all sorts of good spots downtown like Dmitri's, Blue Door, Quiznos etc... lol. whatever you're all in to. There's a Rotten Ronny's on Prospect that's convenient for the out-of-town crew.
kirjtc2
Feb 6, 2008, 12:47 AM
Yeah, I'd rather go somewhere downtown myself, I just put the Hilltop out there because of the parking (plus it would be easier to get to from out of town).
The Blue Door sounds great to me....Snooty Fox too while we're at it. Parking shouldn't be too big a problem since I think most of the lots nearby are open on the weekend.
mylesmalley
Feb 6, 2008, 1:36 AM
I've never been to the Snooty Fox. I've heard good things though. Is there anything worth mentioning on the North Side? I try to avoid it. Kind of a 'there be dragons' sort of thing. But if anybody knows a place?
kirjtc2
Feb 6, 2008, 2:14 AM
I live on the north side...nothing really worth going to here. A few run-down bars and "family" restaurants that are stuck in the 70s, some fast food places and the horribly hokey Frank's Finer Diner. Best place I can think of would be Jive's on Main near Brookside, but even then the food isn't very good.
The best places are for the most part downtown.
Smevo
Feb 6, 2008, 4:34 PM
My vote would be for the Snooty Fox, which seems to be the best blend of good food (pub style) with reasonable prices. There's better food downtown, but I don't think anyone wants to be spending $20/plate. I've never tried that place on Prospect though. Would be convenient and easy to get to the Corbett centre and Bishop Dr construction sites for those out of towners so inclined.

Feb 7, 2008, 12:58 AM

Here's directions, but to get to the parking lot, instead of continuing to the end of these directions, turn right onto King Street (at Tim Horton's) and there'll be a government parking lot on the left...the lot on the right is for the church so would be in use for at least part of the day.
