^ It's just starting to change now, for a long time Burnaby was very guilty of building tower in the park designs. Finally they are beginning to see the benefits of meeting the street and building proper neighbourhoods.

The 3 Buildings most in danger of coming off this list :

1. Absolute World North - 160 meters
2. Hotel Georgia. - 157 meters
3. Pinnacle Centre - 33 Bay Street. - 156 meters

How do you like that, All three 500 footers!

I think Centrepoint was the real game changer in Metrotown, and the office development / street wall / commercial aspects that came with it. It is a great complex, far above the average suburban condo tower development, imo. I also feel that the Crystal Mall complex and the office tower with Staples at the base meet the pedestrian realm decently as well.

With these new developments though, Metrotown is a place to keep an eye on now!

A 1950s office building with an above grade parking lot. The wall in question is built to the lot line and faces a narrow lane way. It's not ment to be seen.

Sept 11, 2011 Update:

So they seem to be moving pretty fast, with lots of concrete being poured. They'll start laying the floor boards in the south east corner then move clockwise to the other quadrants. They'll usually lay one quadrant and fill another quadrant each day. I guess things move a lot faster once the footing are all in place.

They're also doing some kind of shoring along Yonge Street and blocking one northbound lane at the same time. This work seems to happen only during the weekend, but still causes quite a backup if your approaching the Yonge and Sheppard intersection from the south.

Epcor Tower set to open in Edmonton

Builders hope 29-storey office building will help transform rundown area

You’ll find a panorama of the new Epcor Tower from the top, details on Qualico’s use of sustainable technology, and memories of Edmonton’s first skyscrapers at edmontonjournal.com/edmontoncommons.

EDMONTON - A construction crew sat on the planters and steps in front of Epcor Tower last week, laughing and eating their lunches in the sunshine as they finished the final granite work on the new downtown building.

If Qualico’s Ken Cantor is right, it’s a sign Edmonton’s first new office tower in 20 years will fit into the fabric of this rundown area on 101st Street between 104th and 105th avenues, creating a beloved public space and transforming the street for the better.

Edmonton residents will soon have a chance to decide if that’s true. The building officially opens Tuesday.

it may well be the best part but to be accurate, not just picky, it is the work of an artist who was born in edmonton and happens to be haida (and is proud of it) but that doesn't make it "haida art".

she weighs just shy of 2 1/2 tons of stainless steel and we had to leave a full bay of curtainwall out to move her into the building.

i don't think we'll lose sleep over someone picking her up and walking away. :)

Why isn't the Sovereign in Burnaby on this list? The excavation is nearly complete. Concrete pouring within a month. 156 meters - 45 floors.

At 141 meters, Metroplace in Burnaby should also be on this list.

Here is a render:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v643/vannmann/fullrendering.png

http://www.metroplaceliving.ca/

Demolition has started on the site. If not, this building will be on the list very soon.

That will make 2 towers from Burnaby on this list, not bad for a suburb! (it will also be the third tower over 110 meters to be u/c simultaneously in Metrotown)

Doesn't sound like it's on the list quite yet, but once demo is complete someone from Vancouver should give a heads up.

Metroplace isn't UC yet, or else I would have added it when I added Sovereign. But the demolition and site clearing is complete, I'd guess that excavation should be starting in a few weeks, at which point it will be under construction :D
