^It really is quite amazing nothing has come of that lot which is only 30 seconds away from Wellesley subway. I'd rather see U Condos go there.
As for Casa, here's a view from above taken this morning. In the first pic you can clearly make out the pool.

And as much as I'm really liking the glass, I gotta say I'm still rather partial to the render artist's version.
I was really hoping for just the slightest hint of purple and a lighter grey for the mullions (is that the word?).

NO YOU DONT!!!!!!!!!
Look at Vancouver. While the density is awesome, the repetitive and often malaise-tecture is something often criticized by many.
Too much too fast creates architecture that is often bland or at most ok.

Nope, Westbank (The developer of Shangri-La Vancouver and Toronto) is behind the Fairmont Pacific Rim. Pinnacle's garbage is located elsewhere in the city.

Pinnacle has a reputation for fairly mediocre designs. You can check out a list of their projects here: http://www.pinnacleinternational.ca/condo_current.htm
While I wouldn't call any of their buildings offensive, Pinnacle has become experts at cookie-cutter designs that get approved, look decent for marketing, and typically don't require expensive finishes.
From these photos Success looks better than most of their projects, but other than its height, it looks pretty non-descript.

Not sure what this obtuse comment is saying... are you saying that the Bellagio became a steaming pile of crap (like Success) after Pinnacle took over??
If I've guessed correctly... then I totally agree. Bellagio is a Bloor Street steaming pile of crap. Sorry Cal, I have no idea why you think Bellagio has any merits whatsoever, other than resembling the original render of the "promised" building.
If god is in the details (choice of materials in particular), then Bellagio is a god-less pre-cast lump of steaming crap... that is in my top 10 list of worst executed condos (relative to the "promise", sketches etc.)
Might be very comfy inside, but the exterior is more than a disappointment, it's an outright lie.
If I'm not being clear, I think Bellagio sucks, blows and takes up space in a clumsy, cheap-out Plaza 2 kind of way.
Too bad. They had a very dramatic location (Mount Pleasant valley) to work with.
caltrane74
Dec 2, 2008, 9:56 PM
First of all...Success is not a steaming pile of crap. It's a great tower, it's very slick. It's tall and it has a slim profile. The glass is way above average and the base which "hits" the street adds to the urban feel at street level. If only all the waterfront condos had been built like this; maybe we wouldn't hear so much complaining about harbourfront.

Maldive
Dec 2, 2008, 11:07 PM
^ not bad. And the metaphor will definitely get "a rise" out of Cal. ;-)
The question remains: "bring her home for dinner" (to an empty apartment for example) or "bring her home to dinner" at the parents house?
Ala.. guess who's cummin' to dinner? Big difference.
Just wondering.
My theory - anything that tall will manage to be noticed, get invited to parties and generally receive a moderate amount of attention, despite the ugly old-fashioned green dress she's wearing.
The assumption being... if we can eventually get her out of that dress and slap some lipstick on... we could close our eyes and really enjoy her presence (presents).

No! You're crazy!
The glassis average at best (used on dozens of Page + Steele condos since Matrix was built ages ago) and the block sized base which unfortunately also include the typical arcade (or is it colonade? ... need sleep) is so utterly boring. Easily one of the blandest podiums in the city given its immense size.

Figured Vancouver could use a little love in here, the following pic is from flicker that I stumbled upon on another site. Shows Woodwards nearing completion. Enjoy.

The soon to be voted "most beautiful skyscraper in Canada"... the Ritz... ain't a box.
Neither is Shangri la, Aura, Luna, half 'o Parade and... (ouch! Stubbed my toe) ... L-ish Tower.
Though I suspect when the dust settles, the nicest scraper of this generation will be 4 Seasons (bunch of boxes). ;-)

I don't find them that distressing........ however; they should have been built in Toronto proper, and not in Mississauga.

I doubt the Absolute towers will live up to their renderings and, even if they did, I wouldn't want then downtown. Architectural aesthetics aside, we need more Wellingtons West than glass on podiums.
