** EDIT: Check out a new version along with some other panos and shots from the mountain brow in this thread: http://forum.skyscraperpage.com/showthread.php?t=146487 **
This didn't turn out as well as I hoped but it's still pretty cool, so rather than throw it away I post it here for your enjoyment.

You say that didn't turn out as well as you hoped? You've got high standards, not that that's a bad thing.
I have high standards if I were to post something in My City Photos. I could get this a lot sharper, less grainy and match the colours up better. I'd also like to try a different angle because this one has trees in the way and several of Hamilton's best buildings are hidden.

thats a hard one to shoot with the steam from the stacks and all also...
^^There was extra steam tonight because it was -12C. I couldn't see the fire in Toronto though.

There's always hedge trimmers. :)
Nice. I've always loved the brutalistic contrast between the offices/residences and the factories in Hamilton.

Extremely cool!

AHHH NO!!! Hamilton has already hurt the Escarpment's natural beauty by allowing high-rise development right at the brow :( Last thing we need is a Mountain Brow Chainsaw Massacre! hahaha
Awesome shot, Flar! Where did u take this from? I'm guessing Scenic Dr near Chedoke? Usually from this angle my building is cut off, but I LOVE that you managed to get it in (very very very far right of the pic)! Thanks! :D
The steam is BEAUTIFUL!

That's what I call a conurbation!!!
Another megapano:

I'll be going back to these locations to get some better shots. I'm waiting for a crisp, clear day with less wind. The better shots will eventually be part of a good photo thread.

Nice work flar!
Yesterday it was a full moon and the moon was huge. That was around 6 to 7 at night. If you go at that time you'll likely get a shot of the full moon somewhere above Lake Ontario and in the middle of Hamilton and Toronto.

Awesome panos, both of them. You just need to work on your sharpening a bit to make them go from awesome to kickass.
Not sure how you do your sharpening, but most image editors have a function called 'Unsharp Mask'. If you don't already know, learn how to use that (instead of the basic 'Sharpen' function, which is the devil) and you'll be amazed at the improvement.
I hope you don't mind, but as an example I took your first pano and hit it with some USM (Amount = 200%, Radius = 0.3, Threshold = 0).

Looks like all the buildings in hamilton, Ont are brutalist or International! Time for the hammer to start smashing some glass into the pot!

Sadly that's very true. There's some projects coming up that will feature a lot of glass though, so hopefully this will change.
Oh and I love the "Toronto is a suburb of Hamilton" comment :D

I honestly wondered that for a while now. I don't know if it would be too defining though... just a bunch of lights.
what settings did you shoot the photos at?

200mm F11 8 seconds raw on a Nikon D50.
ac888yow, thanks, I normally use unsharp mask. This shot is like a rough draft, I did some rudimentary processing to see what it would look like and that's it.

i think Hamilton kinda just blurs into the rest of the area from downtown toronto, since you are looking right along the lake, sorta through Oakville, Burlington, etc.

Hamilton is just a blur of lights from Toronto.
Can't tell what's Burlington and what's Hamilton.
^^Most of the buildings in Hamilton are tucked away behind the skyway and no taller than the escarpment, so they would be hidden even if there were a good vantage point from which to view Hamilton from Toronto.
I tried another attempt at the Toronto-Hamilton mega-pano along with some other shots of the Hamilton skyline and some mansions on the mountain brow: http://forum.skyscraperpage.com/showthread.php?t=146487
It's a little better. I'm no gearhead, but this is one of the rare times when I wish I had a few more megapixels and a better telephoto lens.

During the Christmas season you can actually see the Christmas tree lights at the top of Landmark Place and Olympic Tower from Toronto.
