The February trip down through the Low Country included a stop in jungle-like Savannah, one of the most interesting cities I've been to.

Some houses and streets

Savannah is famous for its parks and for all the right reasons.

There seems to be a park every two blocks in any direction. Originally in 1733 the city was laid out around four squares, by 1851 there were 24 squares situated in a symmetrical fashion

Such a beautiful city. I was there in the summer a few years ago. It was hotter than hell with humidity, but the beauty of the place made it worth the heat. Great photos!

Great pics!

When I was younger I took a trip with my dad who was a long-haul truck driver at the time and we unloaded part of our cargo on the docks at Savannah. It's a beautiful city.. wish I was able to see more of it! Someday.

^ Holy crap! Long haul from Saskatoon to Savannah??? That's wild...

ANyway, great pics, Surreal. Too bad Savannah abandoned its original garden plan sometime in the 19th century and the whole city can't be this beautiful.

Great photos Surreal. It is like a living museum with all those beautiful old houses, but it looks like a very liveable city. Thanks for providing the map showing all the squares.

Nice pics.
I'm kind of a city park nut, and Savannah's squares are some of the very finest urban public spaces I've ever seen.

awesome! i know this was taken mid-winter but there's something about that kid sitting there that reminds me of that oppressive, southern, summer heat on the weekend, when there's no one around and when no one and nothing moves and there's this silence that seems to make time move even slower. I spent 5 years down there and still have a love/hate thing with it.

One of the great American towns. Great city layout, why is this so hard? A simple grid layout with planned parks and public space....

I always love visiting Savannah.

It's one of the only smaller cities that I could see myself living in. It's just an all around fantastic place.

How much or shall I say about what percentage of Savannah is dense and urban as these photos?

Judging from the photos, its looks like a neat place to visit for a short vacation.

It is one of the largest National Historic Landmark districts in the United States. Twenty-one of the twenty-four original "squares" in the city remain intact and it is jampacked with architectural variety. It is certainly worth a short vacation.
