View Full Version : Good Standarized Request Instructions/Tips

DATABASE STRUCTURES CARDS:

(This is talked with higher administrators inside and I agree that some good tips here written could be a good orientation for all, having a standarized complete Description in building pages).

In Order to complement the Instructions about how requesting a Building (all vertical orientation structures)(the proportionally horizontal ones like rail systems are to be avoided) and to complement our editor work in easier and standarized way, having the bldg page as complete as possible, we would like to introduce some tips and more instructions for all Members participating in requesting or editing structures to follow such prerrogatives:

It is also the part of forumer to research about a structure and the editor to follow them, seeing if it is not already in database, before requesting, giving us the precise source links.

Please put as follow:

Sources:

Architects, constructors and building information pages, list of air traffic obstacles or a topographical google map among others are official ones.

SSC, Wikipedia, Emporis.com, Skyscrapernews.com and so on are unofficial ones.

Important: The Editors will lookup the correct Link in Emporis as well in Wikipedia to put at the end of each bldg page, but if you give us those links already searched, it is very appreciated.

Heights: Estimate or with sources, not all link address, but just 'Info Page', 'Emporis', 'Wikipedia', 'Skyscrapersnews', 'Website' (of course not all in aposthrophe) or something like that, because people knows to see the links in the bldg page, to have it shorter. They are well known enough. Just uncommon links should be all detailed.

Description: ( This is the part Interesting Facts in your own words )

• Architect: bla bla bla (the main companies involved in project)
• Structure: bla bla bla
• Consulting: bla bla bla
• Construction: bla bla bla

• Site: XX00m² in a fact form.

• Info Pages:
http://www.links (http://www.links/)

• Unofficial Info Page: (here the Wikipedia Link)

• Rendering & Photo Links: a beautiful photo link, by google images, the building for reference when it is not good shown in info pages.

in google link people can find the rest.

And this: for larger more famous buildings with a lot of facts put the description section like this:

• Companies:
- Architect(s):
- Developer:
- Owner:
- Construction Manager:
- Structural Engineer:
___________________________________________________________
• Facts & Description:

The companies section is neatly ordered, and the long line stretches out the page reducing clutter, many famous building already have this format like the Sears Tower, Freedom Tower, Chrysler Building, Empire State Building and so on. An optimal examples:
http://skyscraperpage.com/cities/?buildingID=7609
http://skyscraperpage.com/cities/?buildingID=7788

For full address: no 146 W 1st Street, but like 146 West 1st Street, Neighborhood XYZ ZIP code - Zone.

Unfortunatly the Zip Codes in the Address do not appear further even a lot of big buildings are commonly found only by Postage Code, much more important than the street address actually, but it is still important giving us to have as reference.

Status: Destroyed or Demolished has its nouances but all Demolished bldgs from implosion for example are destroyed at end. Please Renovation is different than Construction, even when re-construction with huge facade and interior alterations, for us is renovation. In this case, most of times, the status will be built, while the basis building was already there and at least 70% of constructions is kept after the short time of renovation is finished.

Style & Materials: Also please try to find out them. It is easy to see following the photos, only the basic ones to be well listed by forumer. Here is the current types we have.

Some tips: A commie-Residential-Block could only be 50' or 60' modern after lack of inhabitations after WWII. There is also some tendencies schools like Constructivism in Russia and Bauhaus in Germany. Materials like Iron-casting or other Metals like Nickel, Chrome, Magnesium and so on should be in facts if necessary. Common buildings are like that:

- started: Xyear
- finished: Yyear
- destroyed: Zyear

Above ground floors: 10 (The height would be 35m, more and equal than that its is a highrise, otherwise lowrise)
Below ground floors: 2
Floor-to-floor height: 3.5 ( The system make round to 4, do not worry) (3.2m the system would give 3)
Gross Floor area: xxxxxm² (please not square feet - we do not have time to research and calculate all)
Elevator count:
Unit count: 10 (Commonly used for number of rooms in hotels and nr. of apartmentes in residentials, but also for more than one mast representation in a field with many ones similar or more than 2 or 3 equal buildings in a complex of ones with just one diagram representation. Please do not put 1 for just one tower if has only one, it is not necessary)

Important: Monastery, Dam, Barrage and other odd Structures are still seeing here as other only, because the number of them in database is too few.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Structure Type: (More than one is possible, but not more than 3 please, only main ones)

HERE IS ALSO THE TIPS FOR LOW LIMITS FOR REQUESTING THOSE STRUCTURES. Less than that, please do not ask that maybe it would not be inserted in database since now, before not all highrises in world are included. This is already in intern discussion, but try to follow our editors recommendations. Here only the common ones are related (.. > 'x'm, means more & equal than that) It is here the lowest acceptable possibility to make some flexibility to the system for everyone in all cases. Exceptions are to be discussed, otherwise could not be included in database. Here is the minimum roof measures. If not listed, it means all possibilities could be included depending on specific situation.

NOT MORE THAN 5-6 STRUCTURES IN EACH THREAD, please. It is hard and heavy for us opening too many links and manage that in memory. Thanks.

Please do not edit this thread. If you have recommendations or ideas please give me that I edit here. Thanks.
DYLAN will review soon this descriptions.

Tip for radio towers: could be displayed for which wave range, it is primarily designed. A radio mast exclusively used for UHF-/VHF-transmission is a grounded structure, carrying antennas. A radio mast for VLF-/LF-/MF-transmission acts often itsself as antenna (mast radiator) and is in this case often insulated against ground or it carries long wire antennas, which are mounted on the tower itsself, spun between tower and anchors at the ground or spun between other towers. For VLF-/LF-/MF-transmission masts also the used frequencies are from interest, as the relation of antenna (often mast height) and wavelength describes well the properties of the antenna.
