Hey!!!
I've just found this new project that consist on a temporary extension of the Eiffel Tower's highest level. The Serero Architects design uses a carbon fibre and Kevlar composite to double the amount of space at the top of the tower. :koko:
My opinion: PLEASE, DON'T!!!! :gaah:
I'm dying because I want to go to Paris, and it's just because the Eiffel Tower... and that thing... well... :whatthefuck:
Even if the Architects say that is temporary, we have to remember that the Eiffel Tower itself was a temporary structure, and after one century we still have it...

Here, a few images:

Why must they screw around with a good thing? Seriously, I even have issues with the beacon, though it does look cool. This is hideous.

I sincerely hope this ugly thing wont be added to the Tour Eiffel but I am afraid it will be built cause looking at the huge numbers of visitors who is increasing year after year = money , that's what is all is about.+ tourists go hand in hand with ruining many interesting things.

I think it's great. Views on the second level were awesome, I only wished I could get to the top

Wasn't this just a big joke?

A vision by the architect, which will never be realized.

I hope not. The wonderful Tour Eiffel is wonderful as it is. This eye atop is not bad if it would be at another tower, but in Tour Eiffel not. It seems this skeleton in other fantasy not built spine eye...

Oh god! Where do people come up with this crap?

This insults the legacy of architecture.

That's what I've read too. This was never a for-real project. It ain't happening.

i like the look, but only if this were to be a whole new tower. the eiffel tower should remain as is for eternity.

I love the beacon we have one on one of our skyscrapers in Montreal, and I think its awesome.

Sometimes modern additions, temporary and permanent, can bring out aspects of an older building that haven't been seen before. Such as the scaffolding on the Washington Monument.

http://cache.gettyimages.com/xc/51098540.jpg?v=1&c=ViewImages&k=2&d=17A4AD9FDB9CF1939847EC77F5F8D1CEB985CA025033C052A40A659CEC4C8CB6

But, this 'thing' atop the Eiffel Tower is not right. The scaffolding on the Washington Monument accentuates the shape of the original structure, the 'thing' atop the Eiffel Tower ruins the visual upward thrust the the tower creates.

No. I'm pretty sure it was merely speculative.

Not even that. It was simply a vision from an architect.

This is like something the Dadaists would have suggested, except it would have been topped with a giant crepe festooned with rotting fish.

Even if they ever want to expand that platform, that design is IMO bad. On such a monument they should in such case go for a design that integrates with the older parts and looks like it was there from the beginning.
That said, leave it alone.
