The University of Georgia is located in Athens, GA. It is about 60 miles eastnortheast of Atlanta. It was founded in 1785, making it the first public university in the United States. However, some claim that since UNC Chapel Hill began classes a year before UGA did, that they deserve the Oldest University title. Either way, here is Part 1 of UGA. Enjoy and let me know what you think!

These pictures are all of North Campus, working south towards the heart of campus, the Student Learning Center and Sanford Stadium.

this one is from my Athens, GA thread...shows people walking across the street downtown towards The Arch, the old gate into the University

Great pics mexibone, Georgia has a beautiful campus. Georgia is Auburn's
best rivalry, we plan to have a better game for the Dawgs this year.

Athens looks great, it almost reminds me of Auburn & Tuscaloosa in different areas.

How can you say Georgia is Auburn's best rivalry? Did you forget about that other game in November?

I've already mentioned the photos were awesome in the version you posted in the My City Photos section, but I'll say it again...awesome! I love the hilly terrian of UGA's campus!

Georgia may not be Auburn's biggest rivalry, but it is Auburn's oldest AND best rivalry. It's a lot friendlier and more fun in my opinion (although our lopsided losses the past two years haven't been fun...LOL).

It's the best rivalry for now and probably one more year. Then maybe the competition will improve, haha. Unfortunately for Auburn, they will probably lose to UGA this year. Not because Auburn completely sux, just because UGA's team is freaking amazing this year. My pick to win the national championship.

All that being said, I toured UGA's campus a while back when I was still trying to decide where to go to college, and I have to say, I found even Auburn's campus more impressive and beautiful. UGA's campus has some nice parts to it, and I like how it's right next to downtown, but I dunno, something about it just made me feel like a stranger. Which, oddly, enough I didn't feel when I was in Auburn. Well, that is until I got down there for the 07 Iron Bowl ;)

I've been to Athens several times and their downtown area is among the best of any college town I have seen.

Great pics... I almost went to UGA for school, but I applied late and had already accepted a scholarship from LSU before Georgia admissions sent my letter of acceptance. One week late.

Southsky, I am sure it was fate that brought you to LSU, I bet it ended up being the right choice! ;)

^^Thanks for all the comments!

Yeah, I agree that the Auburn rivalry is a good one. We have an ongoing joke at UGA that Auburn is basically all the people that like UGA but couldn't get in. LOL. But yeah, as far as rivalries are concerned, I really don't think we hate AU as we do those damn lizards or those ugly hound dogs or those pesky bees...

I must say that the Auburn game has been one of the most frustrating ones for this life long Georgia fan. I think we are about 4-10 in the games that I have attended going back to our clash in 1971 when we were both un-defeated at the time we played. Pat Sullivan won the Heisman based on his "great" performance against us in that game. @#$&%!!! Fact is I have avoided going to it recently for that reason, so I have missed all of our wins as of late. (Gee, maybe I've been the problem all along!) Actually, the one time I saw us play in Auburn in the late 90's we won. That's the one weird thing about this series, the visiting team seems to have the "home field" advantage. Especially AUBURN!
Some of us are convinced that Vince Dooley made a point of making sure that Georgia was only batting .500 or so against his Alma Mater while HE was coach! #@%&*!!! So that warm, fuzzy "brotherly love" feeling isn't really shared by me. No offense.

(I do cheer you on against Florida, Tennessee, and generally anyone outside the SEC though. Wait a minute.............did I just say that!?)
