Nice job, Abu Dhabi is a city I haven't seen much photos of.

Beautiful city. The UAE is such an exceptional jewel when you consider the countries surrounding it.

So that's where Garfield wanted to send Odie!

Are there any older parts of the city that are still intact? What's with the wrecked car? (you had one in your Dubai thread too)

I dunno. . . just something to take a photo of I guess. . . they say that the amount of car accidents is supposed to be pretty high and the traffic is supposed to be the worst in the world, but I didn't find it surprising. . . or any worse that you see here in Chicago for that matter. . .

I have heard (or read) that the United Arab Emirates has the highest per capita rate of death by road accidents in the world. I do not remember when I read this, so it could have changed (but most likely only got worse). I also am unsure if this was a reliable source (but the UAE is probably fairly high in that list).

Interesting pictures - athough I can't say the buildings strike me as remotely attractive and certainly not beautiful (apart from that wonderful mosque)

UAE is nothing when it comes to car accidents... India has by far the highest per capita rate of car accident deaths in the world - and it's blatantly obvious why when you go there!!

Thanks. Rarely seen city. Even if it is not Dubai, I know that Abu Dhabi has some supertalls under construction and of course many exisiting skyscrapers that we could see on the pics. Looks a bit like a "normal" version of Dubai.

^All the Etisalat buildings have a huge golf ball atop them. . . not sure why. . .

LoverOfDubai

Etisalat is a telephone and an Internet company. The ball symbolizes the earth, referencing connections that the telephone and the Internet make all over the world.

I am not 100% sure about this; so if someone else knows better than I, please correct me.

Well I hope either the person in the accident survived, or wasnt in the car! What a terrible accident.
But anyway, nice pics :)

Very nice looking city. The majority of the buildings have a consistent aesthetic steeped in Middle-Eastern vernacular. Great photos, too.

Great Thread!

Abu Dubai may not have as many super-talls as Dubai but it appears to have much more density...Dubai is getting better in this respect but right now I find its skyline looks very sparse...very tall mind you, but height isnt everything.

Not surprised to hear that, with all the construction going on in Dubai right now...

The much friendlier and much cleaner part is definitely true... As Tom did, I was in Abu Dhabi fairly recently (more or less the whole month of October), and I happened to take photos of many of the same areas he did. A-D's a really nice place, dense, friendly people, an interesting mix of "old" and very new, it's quite amazing really!

Probably the most amazing part is seeing the huge percentage of foreigners there vs. the Emirati population. It's shocking!
