I was wondering what they were going to do with that property. Its currently a hole in the ground. Its north of Flamingo Drive just before the bend in the highway. I think either a garage or a restaurant is next door. I've noticed the Bedford Highway becoming somewhat of a barrier. On the west-side (inland) there's residental and on the east-side (water) more and more office and retail. For example, Mill Cove is growing, and DownEast Communications recently expanded their offices.
Just from that picture it looks like a good-looking office building.

Construction has begun on this. Judging by size it won't take long to build.

Even without the facade done i can say that this building will be butt ugly. There's a lot of concrete and judging by how far it sticks out it the glass wont cover it.
Its topped out so the facade work should begin in a week or two.
By the way this thread is technically in the wrong section. It should be in Suburbs

Okay I've driven past this building a few times lately and well i just have to rant about it.
The building has so far managed to be uglier than any building i can think of in Burnside, its made completly out of concrete except for the tiny little wooden walls, its parking will be under the building, It only has two floors of office space because of its horrible layout, and its built pretty much on top of the Atlantis Realty building next door. I never thought that the Bfd Hwy would get uglier but between this and the piece of crap at Larry Uteck the Highway has been knocked down a whole other knotch recently. :hell:
I hope that nobody had any expectations for this building because if i had the money i would buy this building and immediately burn it down and replace it with some a lot better looking. :yes:

You should post a pic of this building so we can see what your talking about.

Unfortunately i dont have one right now. I'm going to try to get one soon though. My rants and complaints don't mean anything without proof.
Just put it this way on the link on the first post the drawing of it there makes it look a lot better than it is.
Does anyone know if Atlantis Realty has anything to with this building? They have their HQ next door and they're also expanding.

Got some pictures tonight that roughly show what I'm talking about. Mind you the building was wetter therefore darker and it was raining and night-time. I'll try to get some more in the daytime if possible (all photos taken by me):

BTW this thread should technically be titled "273 Bedford Highway | ? | 3 floors | u/c"

Thankfully they've covered the outside with wood now so it looks somewhat better, I'm scared to see the final product though. I can't look half as bad as the new building at Fisherman's Market though (that thing makes the Grain Elevators look good).
I wonder if I should tell the workers that they trapped the forklift inside...;)

I might of been wrong about this building. In the last month they have placed some nice big multi-storey windows up around the building which look really nice. I'm going to hold off my final judgement until they get something over the wood but so far it is a lot better than I expected! :)

I don't think thats part of the final design. The forklift is on site so I think they are still working on the entrance area.
Probably protection from the weather and from flying car rims (theres some nasty potholes on the road) :jester:

Looks like a stairwell or somthing. Definetly not the best looking front of a building ever. The real sell on this isn't what it looks like from this side, it's what you see from the back of the other, the basin.

There's a sign up on the property stating that the building will be open on June 1st.
They're still missing the final exterior on the base though which is slightly odd.

They've finally placed the exterior finish for the base in but the random white wall remains ... (images by me today as always);

And just for fun heres the 275 Bedford Highway (Atlantis Realty) expansion;

Just as a side note I'm listing this as complete on the Compilation Thread and if any mods read this it would be appriciated if you could update this threads title :)

I'm new to this site, but drive past this building every day and it's looking good! They've started to put in some nice landscaping at the front and they even cleaned up the side between them and Scotia Tire. I have a friend who works for a tree company and he said the owners put that silver "box" at the front of the building (emergency stairwell), so they could save that giant elm tree. Otherwise, with the stairs at the back, the building would have to shift forward and the tree cut down. I'm glad they saved the tree as I have always liked it. There aren't enough building owners along that strip of the Bedford Hwy making this kind of effort to add or keep some green space.

Welcome "Bedford6" :)
I guess that makes sense for the emergency stairwell. Its to bad we'll be stuck with it though. They could of at least made it match the rest of the building. :(
Hopefully some sort of solution will be found for the stairwell situation.
One thing HRM should look into is installing medians or more landscaping along the Bedford Highway to add more greenery along the road since many trees are disappearing lately.

Thanks for the welcome. I personally like the building alot. I think it's kind of retro-modern with those neat light fixtures they've installed in the lobbies that are visible from the road and the silver stairwell "wall" seems to match well with the rest of the steel trim on the building. Cool! :cool:
I agree with your comments on HRM though...the buildings across the street from this new one have never made any effort to add landscaping. It really makes a difference. Even Atlantis Realty has been building landscape walls for over a year and still have no plants in. I hope this new building inspires other owners to fix-up their properties...it's a breath of fresh air during my drive to work! :tup:

I defenitely agree with about how cool most of the building looks. Its just the blue stairwell that gets me. Even if they just painted it to match the rest of the building I'd like it a whole lot better. :)
One thing the city could defenitely do on the landscaping front would be fixing up the little lookoff park next to Atlantis. It could just be enough to get some people across the street to invest some money into their asphalt nightmares. :)
If you don't mind me asking "Bedford6" what part of town do you live in? It would be nice to have a fellow Bedfordian so someone understands what I'm saying when I'm talking about something out here. :)

There actually aren't that many Bedford threads (and technically this is a Halifax thread :P). I think theres maybe six of them in total?
If memory serves you live in Fall River I think which is still pretty close to Bedford, or close enough to understand the locations at least. :)

I have to say that I appreciate them making it look different from the rest of the building - I feel like it breaks down the mass of the building nicely. A stairwell on the "front" of a building is often a tricky matter, and at least the change in cladding provides some visual interest. Here's hoping that the cladding weathers well. I've seen some use of corrugated metal like that where it doesn't fare too well after a year or so (conversely, I've seen some applications where it still looks good years later - must have to do with the detailing, or maybe the supplier)
