A wonderful speech on the problems with America's public realm and what can be done about it.

Already posted a very long time ago, but nevertheless, a great speech.

yeah, most suburbs make me sick. All of Maricopa county, here in AZ, is basically one big suburb with only several places that actually resemble a real community.

I'm glad his TED speech finally made it onto some social media sites. This will hopefully help the public start to see the massive cracks in suburbia. Its surprising how many educated people never factor in the suburban problem when discussing the fate of the United States.

This may have been posted before, but I missed it last time. I'm very glad to have seen this. It is nice to watch a great speaker articulate a lot of opinions that I share, and hopefully this message will be spread around enough to the extent that it at least gets people to think. Too many people I know just assume that since they were born into the current paradigm of urban development and habiation that it's just "the way it is" and have absolutely no problem maintaining the status quo, no matter how harmful that status may be.

Yup.

Still, with oil at over $120/barrel and no end in sight, the so-called "experts" fail to grasp reality.

The first house I own will be accessible to transit. Much of the American public's property will be worthless in 30-40 years, unless we can get our act together and rebuild some semblage of an intercity transit network again

He makes some very good points, but like a lot of people who are passionate about a subject, he quickly resorts to Chicken Little style reasoning and hurts his own cause.
