The three comfirmed stores are opening this Fall. Looks like Staples will be the first to open its doors;

Looks like the Sackville Staples is staying open. That makes 7 Staples in Halifax.

According to a bombardment of ads last week the Winners is now open at 181 Damascus Drive.

Pennington's is now open in Phase II. No word on occupants for the remaining five units.

I would love to see a restaurant announced for the lots along Damascus. Something along the lines of Boston Pizza or Montana's but not those exactly (too close to existing locations). Maybe a Jack Astor's or dare I dream a Earl's (chain out west but no spot in Atlantic Canada yet.

Mocked reminds me a bit of Earls... Especially the eye candy quality of the wait staff :-). Let's face it, that is the best part of Earls!

Found this exert on BANC Group's website. If they are indeed looking to add residential in the near future they'll need a rezoning or development agreement. This could be something to keep an eye on in 2013.

"One of the hottest areas of growth in HRM, Bedford Commons sits on 225 acres of mixed-use land just off the 102 Highway. As a community and retail power centre, Bedford Commons enjoys the presence of many major retailers such as Walmart, Canadian Tire, Winners, Staples, Sport Chek, Future Shop, Dollarama, and many others. Further expansion of the area is imminent, as BANC is pursuing plans for 50 acres of residential development as part of the power centre. Additionally, the park will house the Daniel Nestor Tennis Centre, the largest of its kind in HRM."

(1) New development next to Canadian Tire, (2) New stores in Phase II (both photos by me);

Looks like the expansion of the Bedford Commons Walmart is underway (grocery section, I believe). There is also a new pad that has been poured in front of the Staples. Sorry, no pictures, I'll try to take up my camera next time.

Heard a rumor that Futureshop there most likely wont renew its lease when it comes up. They haven't turned a profit since they have been there.

well it's interesting on Futureshop
I wonder how Bedford Commons and Dartmouth Crossing will cannibalize each other once the new highway is in place

right now they are about 12km apart & not easy to drive between
but once the Burnside express is finished they will be ~7km apart and easy to travel between

so it would make sense for FS to pull out

This will be very interesting. Even now I'm more likely to go to DC over BC when I'm home (Sackville) because of Costco, the new highway will just speed up the process. It's also interesting that Staples in Downsview just closed, they might regret that one. I'd love to see Future Shop open up in Downsview.

The Source in Downsview has been doing much better since Staples closed.

Dartmouth Crossing is such a nightmare to drive around within, I avoid it if at all possible. Despise the place, the layout, and the awful traffic control.

I see the tree cutting for the connector has started on the Dartmouth side as well.

I don't find it too bad... its a whole league better than Bayers Lake. I've been to many of these 'power centers' in other cities and DC is definaltely one of the better ones. I do think the traffic light timing needs to be revaluated, I find them very long lights. Maybe the timing was designed for a higher traffic flow.
