It has been a rainy June. The long building in the foreground is the City of Calgary Water Centre which houses the water dept.

May 25, the Elbow River flooded the bike path. No big deal, but there is still the threat of more flooding. Fish Creek in south Calgary is flooding tonight June 11.

Calgary has 635 kms of paved bike paths. They aren't all this flat. This one goes beside the canal to Chestermere which is almost 40 kms round trip depending on where you start.

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2320/2539450707_316d703f07_b.jpg

we were out cycling and we noticed a growing plume of black smoke. It was a tire fire at a junkyard. This is where the canal to Chestermere starts from the Bow river. The brightly coloured building in the middle of the pic is twin hockey arenas called the Max Bell Arenas. Once I was given a note at work to call a friend who worked as a Zamboni driver at the Max Bell Arena and the girl who took the message was a little confused because she said I was to call the Mac's Ballerina!!!

on the left is the Dominion Bank Building, now a fine restaurant called Teatro. Straight ahead is the Calgary Public Building which is incorporated into the Epcor Centre for the Performing Arts which has 4 theatres. The lobby of the building is the lobby for the Jack Singer Concert Hall. Upstairs are City of Calgary offices. The elevator is the last elevator in Calgary with an elevator operator.

And good to see the rain hasn't been slowing your picture-taking down at all!

Thanks EF! As long as the rain drops don't soak my camera, I'm good to go. I think "weather" makes the pics more interesting.

Thanks Art! I like the new red wavy ribbon on the new CTrains, I was lucky a new train happened by at the time.

Thanks Officer Ummagumma, I... uhhhh... just walked through the parking lot and all of a sudden I was on the tracks. I was surprised there is no fence, just a ramp type slope, it looks like cars park there during the day.
I thought it was a different view of the Palliser South, OneTen, and Keynote construction.
I'm too old and fat to be hopping fences, I might get high-centered!

Thanks Ayreonaut!

Dear Living,

Seeing this thread made me appreciate the pictures of Calgary in the rain even more than your previous postings. The puddles and the light are truly extraordinary. There were several that I thought were really beautiful. Thanks for sharing your talent!

All those beautiful modern skyscrapers... and the US Consulate is a big ugly brutalist concrete block... what's the symbolism here? You make Calgary look like a place well worth a visit. Thanks for posting!

Haha, I remember installing window film in a condo near the Talisman Centre right by the Elbow river when it was flooding a couple years ago, I guess it would have been June of '05 or '06 and the bike path was underwater and everybody turned around when they saw it was underwater except one guy wasn't paying attention and drove his bike straight into the river, it was funny (because it wasn't very deep under water but he got soaked!) I laughed my arse off
