Here are a few shots of Topeka, Kansas. It's one of those small towns people seem to be interested in as you just don't see photos of towns like this often. So, here you go! :)

Nice shots!! I have always liked Topeka from the air. The CBD always looked pretty solid from that angle. I hope to go in someday and shoot it from the ground and get a cultural side of Topeka!! They had a 15 story building from the 20s' or 30s' that was imploded several years ago. I wished they still had it. :(

Of all the cities in the US, I am amused that this is the one with the ZIP code 666--.

It's a treat to see aerial photos of smaller cities like this. Nice work!

kcexpress - if you go to Topeka, there is a secondary urban main drag north of the river (on either Kansas or Quincy Ave) that I am curious about, but didn't get to when I was in Topeka. Might be worth a gander.

Thanks, but honestly, Topeka is a total dump and I just have little desire to get any closer than 2000' from it. :).

That main drag would probably be U.S. 24. That area is mostly industrial / warehouse. I used to deliver freight in that area. If I remember correctly, it's not all that exciting. I will probably hold off on Topeka for awhile. I still gotta go south for some shots in a week or two, and my tentative trip out east in mid-July. :D

Yeah, I have family there, been there plenty of times...sadly Topeka is pretty dumpy. There are some nice residential areas west of downtown though.

Nice shots.

Looks like they're re-working the grounds around the capital building.

It's unfortunate but when I think of Topeka, I think of Fred Phelps.

Thanks for the pics. Last time I was there, I was 8. Hasn't appeared to change much.

I don't think the nation will ever forget Fred Phelps and his treatment of the family of the young man who was killed in Laramie, Wyoming. It was a huge issue in Austin, which gave huge support to the young man's family. Unfortunately for Topeka, the city continues to be associated with Phelps.

The association is probably unfair, in that Phelps probably wouldn't represent many people in Topeka. But I'm as guilty as anyone else of making that association with Topeka. Maybe this would be good topic for "city discussions".
