Another school year is almost over and I think it would be a GREAT Idea if people
wrote about where they're going and what they're doing!
If anyone has been somewhere where some body is going,
give a tip or suggestions!

(Sorry, but this little poem just came to mind!:

La fin est proche mais vous êtez stressés?
En examen et accablés?
Mais là, mon p'tit, c'est assez moche,
En effet, on saute une coche!

Adrénaline, c'est hors question
Mais Ritaline, c'est avec raison!

Ritalin, Ritalin!
On s'calme les nerfs qui explosent sans fin!
Oh,Ritalin, Ritalin!
Essaye le pour le sien!

Sorry about that!

Anyway, I'm heading to Europe ( France, Italy, Swiss alps ) for the month of July but we'll have a pieds-à-terre in Lyon for half of the trip. Lyon is, at most, two hours from Marseille, Turino, Genève and other exciting areas of the continent. We are doing a house exchange with a family in the city! This trip is being done on the cheap (we get to Europe on Airmile points!) and we expect the unexpected!
We are the kind of people that don't plan things. ANYTHING.

For example, last year, I suggested a trip across Canada (west) in late June and we left for the most perfect trip two weeks later! Of course, we didn't know where we were going but we found a campground to hitch the tent every night!

If anyone is considering going on a tour of Canada, I STRONGLY recomend it!

I hope this works!

:)

^Where in Italy? My wife and I will eventually get over to France, and down the Rhone (Chateauneuf-du-Pape), down to Nice...and somehow manage to hit Epernay or Reims. Have fun!

As for us this year, it's back to the Okanagan. Couple nights in Osoyoos, the rest up "north" at Mara.

The cross country trip will happen, we're just waiting for our son to get a little older to return to Quebec, and further east to NS/NB/PEI.

I'm planning to visit Tuscany in August, which is where the Prime Minister of Canada lives when he isn't in Ottawa.
Of course I'm talking about a subdivision in NW Calgary called Tuscany, not the real thing! :haha:

I kind of have a big summer. I am moving to Brisbane to try living in Australia for a couple of years. Moving with a friend. We start work in September, but leave Canada on July 2nd. We are doing the month of July in Thailand and Malaysia, and then the month of August in New Zealand. We have most of it planned out, but are also somewhat flexible in our times. We have our flight to Bangkok booked, and our flight from Singapore to Auckland, and then Christchurch to Brisbane booked. That is about it. Leaving in two weeks, and can't wait.

I'll be working two weeks on, two off all summer, starting in Fernie in early July. I think I'll be loving that schedule :D.

Then in September or October I'll be heading off two Europe for two months with a couple friends. I have family living in London for a couple years before they come back to Calgary, so if I don't get over there soon I'll have to pay for my stay. Besides London, we'll be spending time in Germany, Holland, France, Denmark, Sweden, and Belgium. It's going to be a busy two months, but a shit-ton of fun.

Damn - I need to get a life. A couple of nights in Waterton but nothing else planned. What good is having 6 weeks of vacation built up when you don't use it... Oh well, 4-day work weeks for the remainder of the year also sounds promising...

Seems like students have never been that whealthy !!! It seems the majority of you are planning to travel abroad. In french we say, les voyages forment la jeunesse which loosely translate means traveling forms the youths. Good for you and I wish you enjoy your summer. Take advantage of it, it's much more fun than having a full time job.

Back in Maple Leaf lounge (MTL)!

The flight was amasing!!!
It took only 15 minutes airtime to reach the airport...

Being over the clouds and watching all the people go about their lives
was really cool!

Ahhh...

This summer, I'll be going to Cleveland, Ohio in the middle of July for a few days  . I'll also be cruising around southern Ontario (Toronto, Kitchener, Guelph, Bolton ect). Toronto FC game tomorrow!

I might go to Ottawa later in the summer.

BTW AylmerOptimist, what airline/aircraft are you taking from Montreal-Paris?

God forbid AO that your don't take the train between Ottawa and Montreal to reach the airport. If people keeping flying between those two cities than there is little chance of a high speed train service.

Are you taking some time and going elsewhere prior to coming back? You won't spend a lot of time back 'home' by the sounds of it.

We had the pleasure of a visit (last week)by a friend of ours who also teachers in China. She's only home until the end of June and has to go back to start prepping for the next year. However her husband and kids will stay here for a few more weeks. Actually he is not even here yet, he took a side trip to Peru on the way home this year to do some biking. The last 2 years he has gone to the Himilaya's after school finished. They seem to see some pretty interesting places.

Interesting fact. They have been in China 5 years now and have another year left on their contract. The school wants them to stay another 2 years, and they dearly want to stay as well. However they were advised to get tested for heavy metal contamination when they are home this year. Not sure of their source, but they were told not to stay in China for >6 years unless they tested 'clean'. Apparently it is a problem for some people due to the pollution.

Just spent the better part of last week in Portland, OR drunk off my ass. What a great town. If you haven't been there - definitely go, as it is the hidden gem of the Pacific Northwest.

Starting my next vacation in August - Geneva, CH. Okay, it really isn't a holiday, as I'm moving there and I will have to look for a job, but the wife is already employed, so I probably won't exert myself until the fall. ;)

lol @ Portland being a "hidden gem". Great city but its not exactly hidden.

Anyways I'm not going anywhere out of the country. Or even out of the province. Although I will be going here next week

^Everybody I've talked to in Edmonton and Calgary couldn't understand why I would go to Portland for a vacation - so maybe it's just a secret to Albertans?
