The New Orleans Regional Transit Authority (RTA) is proud to announce the arrival of its new low-floor Orion 35-foot energy-efficient buses. All new RTA buses will run on biodiesel, a cleaner burning alternative fuel produced from domestic, renewable resources.

Interesting.

The TTC is actually considering ending the use of biodiesel, due to reports that biodiesels are causing increase in world prices, and that biodiesel is not as clean as once thought.

Ha - this is New Orleans. From what I've observed, Katrina put the city into a time warp, with respect to roads and transit. The St. Charles Streetcar still isn't fully re-opened yet, and the city has yet to replace many of the buses that were destroyed in the storm. Plans for a new streetcar line, bike lanes, and lots of other transportation improvements were all cast aside when many more urgent concerns came up, like rebuilding what was there before.

At least it's positive progress. At this rate, NO will have a few hybrid buses in 5-6 years.
