To quote LMich from Detroit Sky's July 7 thread (http://forum.skyscraperpage.com/showthread.php?t=154151) :
"There is nothing like downtown Detroit on a sweltering summer day."

Took a walk, July 10
Got off a bus at Cass and Michigan and walked past Tiger Stadium and back.
Michigan Ave, from Rosa Parks (12th St) to Rosa Parks (Transit Center)

This spot at Trumbull beside St Peter's Church was where I stood many times waiting for the bus home from a game. It's also the spot from which I spied the first cab go by with it's roof smashed in back in the fall of 1984.
Notice the lineup of buses waiting to carry joyful patrons of Nemo's to Comerica Park.

Excellent Photos! Are those real palm trees outside the MGM?

They'd have to be transplanted if they were, maybe in very large pots. But the MGM staff is practiced in horticulture according to:

The ones in the Ren Cen are real according to the tour guides but they are indoors. http://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowUserReviews-g42139-d272158-r17256322-GM_Renaissance_Center-Detroit_Michigan.html

Detroit's version of the Magnificent Mile. Now all we need is the touristy shops and restaurants!;)

Great shots.

Sad to see the end of Tiger Stadium. Those first few pics really brought back some memories, going to Tigers games as a child were my first experiences in a big city.

That's the Book-Cadillac. It used to be an abandoned dump, but in the last few years it has been undergoing a renovation into what will be called the Westin Book-Cadillac Detroit. It is scheduled to open in October.

This is what it looked like in it's abandoned state:

Here's the transition of the Grand Ballroom:
