Here are a few shots of Jackson, MS. I was passing through town and decided to drive by an airport where I found a great pilot who gave me a free flight over the city.

dude, you're gonna piss off the Mississippi forumers with that scathing preface.

However, I thank you for these aerials of the rarely seen Jackson.

Hmmm...looks pretty good from the air. Never been there...

It looks like there's plenty of space for good things to happen if the city ever kicks into high gear. In the meantime, Jackson is without a doubt home to one of the loveliest capitol buildings around.

Wow, great to see this city from the air. And a free helicopter ride?

You don't see that every day. Not bad at all.

Nice, but the city sure hasn't seen the boom that most other deep south cities have. Went through there once and about got run over by a pickup truck full of rednecks on their way to a crawfish party!

Cute little city! Great shots.

Downtown has some great looking old buildings. My favorite is the one directly in the center of this photo:

Anyone know what that is? What it is currently used for?

We don't see much Mississippi on here; For obvious reasons (not a ton of urban areas). My grandparents on one side migrated up here to Pittsburgh for jobs from Blue Mountain, Mississippi in the northern mountains. (Cue the banjos!)

You sure it wasn't a hootenanny?

KC, would you have any closeups of the Standard Life Bldg. It is the older building in the far left portion of this pic. I've always liked this building.

Not much has been built in downtown Jackson in years in the highrise category.

Most of Jacksons growth has gone to the northside in Madison county, where the Nissan Auto Assembly plant is located.

Great pics as usual for an under-represented city on the forum.

Definitely don't see much of Mississippi on this forum, especially in the photo threads.

What university is that? Ole Miss? Mississippi State?

Jackson State; Ole Miss is in Oxford (N. Miss.) and MSU is in Starkville.

nice pics. Jackson seems underrated (well, the spots of Mississippi where there's civilization are definitely underrated.) when i visited i had a half-baked plan to move there, become governor and turn the state into a new florida. it'd be great.
