HAMILTON PLACE RANKED AS ONE OF THE TOP THEATRES IN THE WORLD
HAMILTON, July 15, 2008 – Hamilton Place has been ranked number fifty-two theatre worldwide according to the internationally respected publication Pollstar. These rankings are based on tickets sold since the beginning of 2008 and this marks the first time that Hamilton Place has been included in these listings. In addition to being named fifty-second in the world, Hamilton Place also finds itself placed second for tickets sales in all of Canada.
This year commemorates Hamilton Place’s 35th anniversary. 2008 has been a fantastic year that started off with 8 sold out shows of the smash hit musical MAMMA MIA! The sold out shows have continued throughout the year with legendary acts like Gordon Lightfoot, k.d.lang, Anne Murray and Leonard Cohen. Hamilton Place has also been the host to other outstanding programming such as Go Diego Go!, Cats, David Copperfield, Blue Rodeo, and comedians Ron James and John Pinette. The quality of the acts gracing the Hamilton Place stage has not gone unnoticed by the public. Since 2005 there have been steady increases in both the number of events held each year and in attendance.
HECFI CEO Duncan Gillespie said, “Hamilton Place is 35 years old and still going strong. Our staff has worked diligently to bring top quality acts to the City of Hamilton and Southern Ontario and we are pleased to see that attendance continues to rise. This is a very special year for the theatre and it is an honour to be recognized for the success that we have experienced.”
